As a current college student and part-time worker, I understand the struggles of not being able to afford various lavish vacations and weekend trips. Being in this state, although it can frustrating, it can actually be beneficial in some regards, as it forces me to explore new things in my city that I may not have otherwise done had I been on vacations over the summer! Here are a few things you can do when you aren't vacationing this summer.
1. Explore your city's parks.
Every city has some degree of parks and recreation appreciation and wildlife preservation. If you live in a bigger city, take the time to explore each park on your own time! Take a friend, pack a picnic, go for a hike and soak up some sun.
2. Delve into local events.
If your hometown is like mine, then hopefully there are various events happening every day of the week. Seek out free concerts and food truck events, yoga on the square, city flea markets and more! There is so much to see in your city, you just have to make sure you're looking for it.
3. Take a mini trip.
Yeah, I know, the whole article is about finding things you can do without a trip, but you can always take a mini trip!! There are multiple different cities you probably haven't visited in your state, so take a day and take a mini road trip with friends!
4. Try anything new.
If you can't adventure to a new place, adventure in your daily life. Try a new hobby, read a different kind of book, branch out into different forms of writing, eat at a new restaurant for date night! Anything new is some kind of adventure, and trying something new will take you to a different place, almost like a little trip away from your norm.
Basically, the gist of being at home during the summer is this: Be adventurous at home! Just because you're in your everyday surroundings does not mean that life has to be mundane and routine. Experience new things, seek out adventure and most importantly have the most fun you possibly can. The amazing weather and brief free time is an amazing opportunity to embrace the culture of your city! Take the plunge this summer and explore.
