What To Do Over Winter Break

Besides crying about your GPA.

What To Do Over Winter Break

The fall semester is finally coming to a close. We college students now have a month and a half to relax. Finals may have lowered your GPA, but there is nothing you can do about it now. Here are some ideas of what to do this winter break.

SLEEP!

After a week of finals it is finally time to kick back, lay down, and just sleep. You pulled all-nighters to finish writing a paper that was due in the morning. You crammed for your final. Now it is time to hibernate in your bed so you are rested up for spring semester.

HANG WITH FRIENDS!

We know that Thanksgiving break is so short, so you really didn’t have a chance to hang out with all of your friends from home. When you are home for winter break, hang out with your high school friends. Share some crazy college stories. But while you are home, don’t forget about your college friends. Invite your college friends to hang out with your friends from home. As Hannah Montana used to say, “The Best of Both Worlds.”

NETFLIX, HULU, HBO GO!

Time to catch up on all the shows you missed while away at school. Now that you have all this free time on your hands, start binge-watching all the shows that your friends would talk about all the time, like "The Walking Dead." When you get back to school, you will be able to talk about the shows with them … but let's be honest, they will probably be talking about another show by then.

WORK!

Think about how much money you spent every weekend this fall semester. While you have all this free time to relax and hang with your friends, you could also work a little bit and save up your money.

SPEND TIME WITH FAMILY!

I know over the holidays the whole hanging out with family could be a little overwhelming with all the questions they ask. But let's be honest, no matter what time of year it is, it will never really be easy seeing your family. You know they will ask you the most bizarre questions, or ask you the questions you don’t want to answer. Think about it this way, though: Once you graduate college, the questions will get worse. So spend time with your family now, enjoy hanging with your family now. Remember, as you get older, everyone in your family is getting older too.

Whatever you do this winter break, enjoy it! But, whatever you do, do not get in a relationship with your old bae from High School.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
