Fandango conducted a survey recently to determine what exactly is the most anticipated movie of 2016 and they learned, to no one's surprise, that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was the most anticipated movie of this year. I don't really think anyone is surprised by this after the success and mostly positive reviews The Force Awakens received. A lot of these movies though are long awaited sequels to beloved classics so my concern is that these new movies might fall short of their original predecessors. So I decided to look at the various trailers and information released about each one to determine if we should get our hopes up about them or not.
1. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
This will be a very interesting movie to go and see since it does not relate to the Star Wars franchise directly. It is the anthology series that they are trying to launch so it takes place in the same universe but the story that is going on does not relate to the main movie's story line. They have Felicity Jones, the actress from The Theory of Everything, starring in it and a few other noticeable names with the only information about the plot so far being that "rebels are trying to steal the plans for the Death Star." After seeing Star Wars: The Force Awakens I am very excited to see how this one turns out but I think we should be even more excited for the Han Solo origin movie that is set to be made after this one.
2. Finding Dory
YES! YES! YES! Finally this is set to come out! We have been waiting for so long as fans (and so has Ellen) for this movie and it is finally happening! I know people have reservations of Pixar making sequels and I understand your concerns but to those people I say, Toy Story 1, 2 and 3. Successful sequels can be done and I am pretty sure since it has taken this long for them to come out that they are going to make sure that it is pretty much perfect.
3. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
I have to be honest, I think this movie will be very disappointing. I really hope I am wrong and if I am then a really good movie will be the result but previous DC movies (with the exception of The Dark Knight trilogy) have not proven me wrong. Man of Steel did not blow me away and I can't help but feel that DC Studios are just trying to copy Marvel. They didn't even make a movie with Ben Affleck to establish his Batman and just rushed straight into a team up movie with him and Superman. Also why the heck is Wonderwoman in this movie? I mean sure she's cool but based off of the trailer it kind of seems like they just threw her in to set her up for her own movie. I don't want to complain about this movie too much but I honestly don't feel excited for it but I hope I am wrong.
4. Jason Bourne Sequel
We should be pretty excited about this movie. We have Matt Damon reprising his role as Jason Bourne and then we have the director returning as well. No offense to Jeremy Renner because I think he is a fine actor, but I am definitely more excited to see Matt Damon back than another Aaron Cross story spinning off from The Bourne Trilogy. Not much has been revealed about this movie yet except for a picture of Matt Damon on set (seen below). But whatever is the final result of these two collaborating I think it is safe to say it's going to be good.
5. Captain America Civil War
Quite frankly this should be at the top of the list. Am I a little biased since Captain America is my favorite super hero? Absolutely. But that doesn't mean I'm wrong. This movie is going to be flat out amazing and I cannot wait for this summer to go see it. It will be such a good movie with him and Iron Man facing off and the plot is probably going to be fascinating with great action sequences and engaging performances from the actors. All around the stuff they have released for it like the trailer and the posters point to an excellent movie so the only thing that's left for us to decide is who's side are we on.
6. Star Trek Beyond
This is the third movie of the franchise with the new cast and based off of the first trailer released I think we can be pretty excited about it. It seems like the story is taking and interesting turn in the fact that they are actually exploring new worlds and fighting for survival. I am a little sad to see J.J. Abrams out of the director's chair but I think the new director will be interesting and this whole movie looks exciting. It certainly appears to have more action and I think the new cast does an excellent job interacting with each other so I think this should be a good movie to go see in 2016.
7. Independence Day: Resurgence
I am not really that excited about this movie if I am being honest. It's not that I didn't like the first one it's just that I'm not super into the fact that there is a sequel. It looks like it should be pretty good though with the return of Jeff Goldblum and the aliens. It appears that they have upped the intensity for this movie with bigger ships and more advanced weapons which should lead to some pretty cool action sequences. AndI must say this is a pretty cool looking trailer . I like how they overlaid the speech from the original movie over the stuff happening in the trailer and then cut it off before he could say Independence Day. I just hope this a movie where the trailer was the coolest part about it.
8. Xmen Apocalypse
This will be an interesting movie to go see because it is the first one after the film Days of Future Past which is where basically the director Bryan Singer pushed the reset button on the franchise and is now able to deal with all the same characters and run the story the way he wants to run it. This is dealing with pretty much the same cast as the last two which were fantastic films and then we have a few newcomers to the franchise as well. This should be a very intriguing story and based on the trailer it looks like it could be the Xmen's greatest battle yet, against the villain Apocalypse. This will definitely be one to mark down on your calendars.
9. Zoolander No. 2
I am going to say very little about this because I am not very excited about this. I find with comedies like Zoolander, the originals are always funnier than the sequels. So I don't really know why they have decided to make a sequel now but I am really going to go into this movie with low expectations so if it ends up being hilarious I'll be pleasantly surprised.
10. The Jungle Book
I am excited for this movie however I am not sure where they will take the story of the Jungle Book. They obviously aren't going to change too much of it around but with the live action Cinderella they added a little bit more backstory to her character which I really enjoyed. I don't really know how they will do that for this movie, or if they even will do that but either way I think it will be interesting.
