Whether you don't see your significant other every three to six months because he or she is in the military or you only get to see them once every month because you go to different schools, it's rough. People tell you that you are out of your mind for sticking with a relationship where you don't get to see your significant other often. Some even say that your wasting the best four years of your life. But there are so many other great aspects to a long distance relationship that no one tells you about.
You grow as a person through the times that you are apart in ways you couldn't have done otherwise
It's tough. That's one thing that the pessimists had right. But the time that you spend alone, only makes you stronger and believe it or not, it makes your relationship stronger, too. You are able to grow as an individual while still having a significant other, it's the best of both worlds.
Your significant other becomes more than just your love, they become your best friend
All those late night talks really bring you closer together. You talk and talk and talk, and there's absolutely no way you would rather have it.
You become more independent and are not just labeled by your relationship
You are still close with your own group of friends because you are not constantly with your significant other (not that there is anything wrong with that either).
You get really good at planning
From planning the next FaceTime call or the visit, you make sure that every second is spent wisely and you have the best time.
You learn to appreciate each other more
You learn to appreciate little things that your significant other does because every little thing matters when you only have a short time to spend with them. You especially learn to appreciate the time spent with them more and don't take it for granted.
While long distance is not the most ideal situation, it is worth it in the long run. And trust me when I say there are most to them than what the pessimists say.
