Flying is a fun thing, but only if you are flying for two hours or less. I live in a small country in the middle of Europe and there are no direct flights to U.S from there. Which means I have to take a short flight in Europe and then a long flight. The long flight lasts at least eight hours depends on the country I am flying from. Not the best experience, believe me. The worst thing is that it is very uncomfortable for sleeping and it gets really cold on the plane. So here are some tips what should you take with you.
1. Pillow
This is a necessary item for good sleep--trust me, you'll need it. They give you a small pillow on the plane, but that's not very comfy. I would suggest you to bring your own pillow. This could be either a neck pillow or just a regular one. Most people bring their neck pillow because it is smaller and it's easier to carry.
2. Water
Water is very important because you can easily can get dehydrated on the plane. You can bring your small water bottle which is really convenient.
3. Snacks
This is a key element when flying. The food they give you during long flights are less than appetizing. The first time was okay--by my third trip, I became sick from the smell alone. Buy some fruits, snacks or smaller sandwiches at the airport after you checked in and take it with you.
4. Sweatshirt & long pants
The first time I ever flew to the USA, I was wearing a tanktop and shorts because it was the middle of August. It was so cold on the plane that I lost feeling in my toes. Those airplane blankets do nothing to fix the hypothermia that is caused from flying. Pack the long pants, the sweatshirt, and maybe even a pair of fuzzy socks.
5. Earphones
I don't know if you have had the "delightful" experience that is a playlist of a wailing child stuck on repeat, but thankfully, I haven't yet. Even on a child-free flight, there could be some annoying people around you who are breathing too loud or just can't stop talking. Earphones are your safe haven, so take them with you. Also, the ones that they give you on the plane are really ratchet, so you can't loose anything if you are using yours.
6. Magazine and a book
You might not read it. You may read the whole thing and be inspired to write your own. However, you never know if the movie screen in front of you will be working. Pack a book to avoid complete boredom.
7. Chapstick
In the high altitude, lips become chapped easily. Save yourself the pain and pack some Carmex.
8. Hand sanitizer
I feel as if I need to bathe in clorox after using an airplane bathroom. Unfortunately, the TSA won't allow a jug of cleaner but they do in fact permit hand sanitizer. You're going to need it. Trust me.
I really hope you enjoy these helpful tips for flying! Safe travels!
