With all of the recent and sudden interest in science fiction, we can say that many people are particularly curious about the concept in modern culture. Science fiction has always been one of my favorite topics in movies, books and TV shows, mainly because it contains highly complex concepts that incorporate things from the future. Many more film directors and authors are using science fiction to entertain us. But we might ask, what does a person learn from experiencing science fiction?
My answer to this question lies upon which things are a particular concern for society and what might become a concern in the near future. As the world advances into the future. we might see problems start to occur that will effect the world in a powerful way. Science fiction can teach us that preventative measures may be necessary in order to protect society in the future from what previously could have been unforeseen. Science fiction gives us a glimpse into what a future world might look like and gives people ideas as to what they can do to protect the world. "SciFi" gives scenarios in which the world would be in a crisis, and then it presents the world's inhabitants with the options available to them to prepare for said crisis.
Science fiction can also give us an inspiration. What I mean by an inspiration is more than just a good story about the future meant to entertain the masses; I mean a way of looking at a science fiction piece and gaining a new idea directly from that piece. An inspiration could be a new smartphone app or a new Internet capable device.
Some inventors may give credit to a piece of science fiction for their inspiration but, mostly, it comes from the inventors own mind. That is what gives science fiction a lot of appeal to many people. Science fiction in itself is it's own inspiration. Many have adapted the way it appears to the modern world, but it always has the same general concept. That is, it gives inspiration to those who look forward to the future.
My own understanding of science fiction is that it has allowed many people like me to experience the present while also looking forward to the future with an open mind and open arms. Some people may be skeptical of what the future may hold, and may call the future a good fictional concept, but the fact still remains that science fiction has a definite impact on many people. It has sparked futuristic thinking and creative ideas in many people that have lead to new innovations.
