My mom has been with me every step of the way. Every year of my life my mom has been the person I depend on. And now, after 18 years, I'm living away from her at college. This is the first time in my life that I can't depend on her as much as I need to. Despite this, she has prepared me for being by myself through everything she taught me in my first 18 years of life.
My mom has taught me a lot about how someone should look at themselves. She doesn't see a need to feel insecure. Even though she knows I'll always have some type of insecurities, she has taught me to be able to overcome them. To look at myself the way she looks at me. Rather than seeing myself through the negative things I may say about myself, she wants me to remind myself of the positives I see in myself.
My mom has taught me a lot about how other people look at you. She is a strong believer that if anyone is rude to you they are most likely jealous of something you have. She has taught me to not worry about the opinions of others, because the only opinions that matter are yours and the people you care about. Even through bullies, mean girls, and the sort, my mom has taught me to be strong and to never stoop to their level. No matter how mean someone is to you, she doesn't believe in retaliation or revenge. Just ignore those people and pay attention to the important people.
My mom has taught me a lot about valuing what is important. Being educated, being caring, being understanding, and striving to be your best self. I'm in college away from her because she taught me that I can become anything I want to. No matter how many times I change my mind as to what I want to do with my life she will stand behind me. Working my hardest at everything that is important to me is what my mom wants to see me do. Trying my hardest in school, sports, and every other activity I do is what she taught me.
The most important thing my mom has taught me is about the type of woman I want to be. My mom cares about people, is kind to everyone, and focuses her attention on what she wants. She is a selfless person who has always put her children first and could only ask for them to be able to thrive. If I could be anything, I would want to be the supportive individual that my mom is. Her life revolves around family, friends, and happiness and I couldn't ask for a better person to teach me about who I should be.
