Going off to college is great. For the first time in your life, you are totally on your own. You can literally do whatever you want, whenever you want. Your parents aren't around checking in on you all the time for the first time. It's great, for a while.
After some time, you start to realize you miss home a lot. Sure, there are days you think you'll never want to go home again. But there are so many amazing things about home you realize you miss after living the college life.
Hot Showers
Taking a hot shower in the dorms is almost impossible. You try to find the perfect time of day to get a shower so the water will be hot, but it never happens. Going home and taking a shower is the best thing ever.
Pets
Who knew you could miss an animal so much? Going off to college and not seeing your dog every day is the worst. But walking in the door after weeks away and seeing their excitement is amazing.
WiFi that works
Kent WiFi is so unreliable. You don't even realize how terrible it is until you have homework due at 11:59, and you're trying to turn it in at 11:57, only to have the WiFi go out. Or even worse, your family telling you that you're way over data because you never have WiFi.
Homemade meals
When you live off microwaved mac and cheese or the same meals in the dining hall every day, you dream of all the homemade dinners your mom would make.
Your bed
Everyone tells you how terrible dorm beds are before you go to college. However, you never realize how bad they really are until you wake up every morning with a sore back or neck. Even if you splurge on the high-end bed pad, it never compares to your bed at home.
Free laundry
First off, you have to learn how to do laundry and do it all by yourself for the first time. And to top it off, you have to pay for every load. $2.75 to wash my jeans? Then you have to sit around all day while you do it to make sure nobody throws your clean clothes on the floor.
No homework or studying
When you're at school, you constantly have homework you need to be doing or an exam you need to be studying for. When you're at home, it's like there is no such thing as homework.
Quiet
At college, you're always surrounded by people and noise. It can be overwhelming at times, and all you want is your own room to relax or sleep in silence
Mom and Dad
Having the freedom to be on your own, make your own decisions, and do whatever you want is great. However, being an adult and away from your parents is not easy. They're not there to help you make every decision. You truly realize how much they did for you once you're on your own and you miss them the most.
