What I'll Miss About UNCW: Part 2

I love this place.

What I'll Miss About UNCW: Part 2

I love UNCW, I really do. Coming from a small town that's not on the map, I never experienced true city life until I got to Wilmington. It's great to be in the thick of things and get to know a new community.

1. Wag Bingo

You haven't lived until you've played bingo in Wag. It's entirely different from other bingo games -- at different points during the game, the hosts (shout out to UNCWeekends) ask for various random items, such as mirrors, hotel room keys, and pictures from a phone. You can also dine while playing.

2. Mini Hawk-In/Hawk-In

There's nothing like sitting in a theater full of people for 12-24 hours. Every year, these two events are planned and executed by ACE Films, complete with dinner, snacks, and contests. There's something cool about sitting in your pajamas with a room full of people doing the same.

3. Shadowcasts

On that note, ACE's shadowcasts. Though the most notable is Rocky Horror Picture Show, there are two others: Moulin Rouge and Scott Pilgrim. These are annual events and are completely cast by students.

4. The Hockey Team

Oh, the hockey team. I'll miss seeing them Rollerblade, skate and bike down Chancellor's advertising their next game. They start off at Wag before heading down the entirety of Chancellor's, and they're pretty hard to miss.

5. Chancellor's

I have a love/hate relationship with this walkway. It's a long, half-mile trek that I usually dread. It's horrible to walk in both summer and winter (not a lot of shade and no buffer zones from the harsh wind), but I almost always can spot someone I know walking in front of me or across from me.

6. Chalking

When walking down Chancellor's and you happen to look down, there is almost always chalking. Sometimes it's beautiful artwork, sometimes it's happy birthday wishes, but it's almost always advertising for an event or a club.

There are so many different aspects of UNCW that I love, and I'm really happy that this is where I spent my four years.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
