4 Ways FGCU Stands Apart From Any Other University

Most colleges are pretty much the same, they are huge, with a bunch of different buildings that are way too confusing to try and navigate. You never see anyone you know and your professors barely know your name let alone that you are in their class most of the time. At FGCU, it is a small family-like community where everyone basically knows everyone. Teachers actually know you exist and care about your success in their class. Everyone is friendly, and their online resources are very easy to use and accessible. FGCU differs from your standard University.

1. The average class sizes are no bigger than like 50 students, with a few being 150 students

Not many colleges have classes where there aren't more than 100 kids, sometimes over 300 kids. There isn't a way to be able to participate in class with that many students. The professor most likely doesn't know your name. and never will. But at FGCU, the professor almost always will know you and genuinely cares about your success. It makes learning a lot easier because there are fewer kids to be worrying about.

2. Even though there are roughly 20,000 people on campus most of the time you will see someone you know.

It's like a little community, like a family. Always seeing someone you know and just being able to have that somewhat of a familiar environment makes being away from home a lot easier. You also will most likely see your professors around campus and that will help you potentially be able to have a better relationship with them, this will provide some help as you continue your college career.

3. There are so many interesting clubs, there is bound to be one that will suit you.

There are so many different and interesting clubs that not many other schools have. There is a hammock club, what school has a hammock club? There are so many different sports teams, like an ultimate frisbee club. There is something for everyone, no matter what it is that you like.

4. The dorms are so much better than what most universities offer.

You get your own space, don't have to share your room with some random person that you don't know. You can lock your door and keep your things safe, or your self if you don't get along with your roommate or don't feel comfortable with them. Even though you have to share a bathroom, you don't have to share a bedroom and that makes dorm life a lot more tolerable.

FGCU all though it is only a 20-year-old school, is very impressive for being so young. There are constant changes and improvements they are making to try and make it better. Go Eagles!!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
