What You're Looking Forward To Most About Summer Vacation

As the school year comes to a close, you're probably staring at your computer trying to avoid studying for your exams, and hoping that the 10-page research paper you haven't started yet will write itself. There's no better time to get excited about all the fun that summer vacation has to offer. Although you may be excited for beach days, road trips and parties, you know that those aren't even the best parts of being home after a year away at school. This is what you're really looking forward to most about going home for summer vacation.

Using your own bathroom.

Say goodbye to awkward small talk with the people who live on your floor! Look forward to normal sized showers, 2-ply toilet paper, and being able to sing as loudly as you want. Put away your shower shoes, because you definitely won't be needing them!

Eating real food.

Watch out world, it's time to eat anything in sight that isn't dining hall food! Home cooked meals have never tasted so good. Even the thought of cold leftovers has you drooling.

Having a car.

Drive to the mall. Drive to the park. Literally drive anywhere you can possibly think of, because after walking across the entire campus all semester, you deserve it! Take your friends along, plug in your phone, and blast your fave Spotify playlist.

Not having to do school work.

Toss your old assignments in the air like you just don't care.

Not having to do your own laundry.

No more having to save up on quarters or add money to your student account, and no more accidentally leaving your clothes in the dryer for three days straight. The best part is, you don't even have to do it yourself! Thanks Mom!

Sleeping in your own bed.

As comfy as your dorm bed may be, there's nothing quite like sleeping in your real bed. Just take a minute to imagine how wonderful your first sleep at home will be, especially after all the short lived naps you took all over campus -- including on the library tables.

Having free time.

Although you may have a summer job, you'll still have more free time than you did during the school year. Now that you don't have to worry about making it to a club meeting, chapter or every philanthropy event on campus, you practically have all the time in the world! Spend this time doing literally anything you want to.

Reuniting with friends and family.

In reality, the best part of going home for the summer is being surrounded by the people who know you best. Being away for so long makes you truly appreciate all that they do for you at home.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
