Think back to middle school...

What Kind Of Seventh Grader Were You?
Melissa Rivera

We all know middle school is a hard time in life. It is a journey of self discovery and awkward phases. Yet, we make it through and move onto crucial years of development in HS. Thankfully, over time we change and grow into adulthood. So, for any middle schoolers out there, there is hope that things will get better in time. Being past that young stage, if you think back to your middle school years, specifically seventh grade, how would you define yourself?

1. Quiet, smart kid

You were happy working quietly in class on homework. You had your close friends, but school wasn't about all the social stuff for you. You enjoyed learning, and people soon came to realize that you were very smart and would probably predict you to be the class valedictorian.

2. Loud and obnoxious

You were not afraid to speak your mind even if what you said sounded unpleasant to the people around you. You couldn't filter what came out of your mouth in the way that middle schoolers have trouble doing.

3. Shy, developing

You were probably not one to speak up in class and did not want to be the center of attention. Perhaps you were still waiting for your growth spurt, so interacting with someone of the opposite gender might have been nerve racking for you. But you made it through with giggle and smiles.

4. Class clown

Making everyone laugh is more fun that listening to the teacher talk. You couldn't help yourself.

5. Angelic child

You behaved well, earned good grades, answered questions in class, participated in sports, and enjoyed going to school. You had good relationships with all of your teachers, and middle school did not seem too bad for you!

6. Lost soul

You didn't feel like you fit in and/or learning was a struggle. However, you made it through with smiles, many lessons learned, and hope that high school would be better.

8. Athlete

Sports were your thing! You devoted much time to getting better which helped feel less like an uncoordinated middle school student.

7. All about the opposite gender

While other students were paying attention to the teacher, you couldn't help but to think about the girl/guy you were crushing on. If you were in the same class as him, you were probably passing notes ("Will you go out with...?"). Or you were leaning over to talk to her, and the teacher had to ask you to stop talking.

Like I said, middle school is a journey of self discovery and awkward phases. Yet, we make it through and move onto more crucial years of development in high school. As time passes, we see changes and growth that allows us to transition into adulthood where can own our past, feel comfortable in the present, and we have goals for the future. So, for any middle schoolers out there, remember that things will get better in time. Just keep doing your best in all that you do.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
