As someone who is in a long distance relationship, I know how hard it can be sometimes. Whether your significant other moved away, is in the military, or goes to school in a different state, long distance relationships can be hard. Here’s what it’s really like:
1. You miss them all the time.
No matter how far the distance, you’ll miss them. It could be one state or ten states, or even a different country. Of course, there’s always Skype or FaceTime, but there’s nothing quite like knowing you can’t just drive over to their house to see them.
2. You just want them with you.
There are so many things I do every day that I wish my boyfriend was with me to do. Especially snuggling up at night and watching Netflix. You can always video call them while you both watch a movie at the same time, but it’s not the same as feeling their warmth and comfort.
3. You get jealous when you see other couples.
Sure, anytime you see a couple when you’re not with your boyfriend or girlfriend, you get a little bit jealous. But when your significant is hundreds of miles away, it’s even more upsetting knowing you can’t have that for a long time.
4. You can’t show them off to your friends or family.
Every time you see your relatives, especially around the holidays, they’ll ask if you have a nice boyfriend or girlfriend yet. The answer is yes, but you can’t introduce them and you have to explain that they’re so far away.
5. Saying goodbye is the worst.
When you finally do get to see your long distance boyfriend or girlfriend, it’s only for a little while. Then when you have to say goodbye, you’re really not going to want to. You’ll cry and not want to go your separate ways again, but you know you have to.
