Let's face it, it sucks when favorite shows come to an end, get cancelled, or are on hiatus. This show is your lifeline, these characters are your babies, how will you live without this wonderful thing?
When The Office was officially over, it felt wrong. What was going to make me laugh out loud every week now? Certainly not Breaking Bad.
Don't even get me started on In the Flesh or Firefly. There was no reason to cancel those beautiful shows!
Okay so maybe there's always a reason. Things have to come to an end, they can't go on forever (unless that thing is Supernatural, then the rules don't apply). And shows without ratings can't stay either, but that's just totally unfair.
It's kind of like when you finish a book or a book series and then suddenly don't know what to do with your life anymore. The Office ending was officially one of the saddest moments of my life. How I Met Your Mother ending caused my boyfriend to eat his feelings for a week. I mean, all stories come to an end, but it hurts when it has to be your favorite.
Then when you're watching another fandom's TV coming to an end or being cancelled you solemnly raise a glass, you know how it feels. (RIP Parks and Rec, I may not have watched you but you were one hell of a show).
Then there's the hiatuses. Listen, I'm used to long hiatuses. I watch Sherlock, and lord knows I wait years for new content. It is the worst! And all shows have them, so all fans have to deal with it. I mean, the casual fans probably don't mind as much, but when this show is your life blood, it's off season can really start to suck for you. Unfortunately for me, my favorite show's off season tends to be off years and well... I don't want to get into it but IT SUCKS!
Regular fans just don't understand. The dedication, the love, the connection to a favorite show can cause a range of emotion from mildly upset to ugly crying when it's off air (and when it's on air too but that's a different story).
Then of course, watching it with someone who is watching it for the very first time incites a jealousy that cannot be named. Why can't I be experiencing this experience for the very first time??? Are they even appreciating it the way they should be??? I remember when I watched this episode for the first time! Should I just eat my feelings into this entire tub of ice cream???
Listen, the point I'm trying to make is that everyone has dealt with a favorite show ending, being on hiatus or even being cancelled...and it can be a truly painful, long, hard experience. But hey, at least now there's Netflix, where re-watching and binge watching are a thing and missing a TV show doesn't have to be that hard after all!
Friend/Significant Other/Family Member: "Why are you watching (insert name of favorite show) for the 20th time instead of (insert name of suggested show here)?"
You: "Because I love it and can't live without it leave me alone!"
