Living in a sorority house is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s obviously not something you can do after college unless you decide to become a “house mom,” but that’s an entirely different story.
Walking down greek row you might wonder what goes on behind those ornate doors. Is it really like the movies? What’s a sleeping porch? Are there nightly pillow fights?
Yes, it is somewhat like what you see in the movies but every house is different and filled with different kinds of girls. There are a few things that are always the same, though, no matter the house, the letters or the girls.
1. You gain weight.
If you thought the "freshman 15" was bad, you’re not prepared for the "sorority 40." It’s inevitable with lunch and dinner prepared for you and access to 24-hour snacks.
2. You get convinced to do things that you might not ordinarily do, or shouldn’t do.
One minute you are innocently doing your homework and cramming for your test that’s only a few days away and the next you find yourself getting ready to go out.
3. You can always find a buddy to do stuff with.
There’s always going to be someone around who needs to do homework, wants to go get a smoothie or hit the gym with you.
4. Fifty plus closets? Yes please.
One of the best perks of living with 50 plus girls is having a multitude of closets to choose from. And 50 plus girls to help you with your hair and make up.
5. Advice.
Fifty girls also means that you can get lots of good advice whenever you need to vent about something. People always say that girls are so mean and dramatic, but sometimes all you need is your sister.
6. If you haven’t gained weight from the endless amounts of food, you will probably gain it from the prime location.
Being on greek row, means you are close to just about everything and don’t have to walk very far.
7. You’re located next door and across the street from fraternity houses.
While this may seem convenient, it is also loud. Very, very loud.
Yes, there are positives and negatives to living in, but there are pros and cons to living anywhere. If you haven’t tried it or are on the fence about it, I say give it a chance. You won’t regret it.
