Everyone always says that they want to know what it feels like to be a twin. Everyone says that they would love to have a twin sister/brother and that would be the coolest thing ever. Being a twin myself, it’s not really as cool as everyone makes it out to be. Twins come in all shapes and forms.
There are some twins that literally look like the same person and there are some twins that don’t even look like they could be related. There are some twins that do EVERYTHING together and there are some twins that can barely put up with each other.
Some things that people don’t realize is there is someone always there to compare yourself to. There another person that is going through the same experiences as you. In school, in relationships, in work, in every aspect of life, there is someone there that your parents, teachers, friends, strangers are comparing you to.
And sometimes you’re not on the better end of the stick. “Why can’t you be more like your sister?” “She’s doing so well in school, why aren’t you?”
And you always have to share everything, since the beginning. It’s kind of like having a little sister or brother that looks up to you, but instead there the same age of you and think that your stuff is actually theirs too.
You share birthdays, you share huge accomplishments in life, you share friends, you share clothes, and anything that you think is yours is actually the both of yours.
There is always a point, where your family or friends will confuse the two of you. They’ll be in the middle of a story and all of the sudden say, “Oh and Gabrielle…,” nope, I wasn’t there, that’s why your telling me this story, that was my sister. Or, you’ll all be hanging out and someone will call you your twins name but they're looking at you and don’t understand why you’re not answering them, and then they finally realize why.
But as many things as there to why being twins isn’t the most fantastic thing in the world, there are some few redeeming sides to being a twin. There always some there who will have your back no matter what. An argument with one of the twin, will always lead to the other twin coming into the argument and sticking up for you. Your twin will even stick up for you, if you can’t or you don’t want to. You’ll never be alone to fight your problems.
Being a twin is having the ultimate best friend forever. They will tell you how is it because they don’t care if it hurts your feelings because your family. If you look ugly in that outfit, don’t worry, they’ll let you know you look like an idiot and should definitely change. You always have a confidant that you can trust without a doubt not to tell anyone, but will also only judge you slightly.
I always say being a twin is like having a sister but someone who is going through the same things as you. I always tell them that it’s really not that big of a deal and it doesn’t feel any differently. But I love being a twin and I love my twin sister and I love being to say I’m the older sister even though I was born a minute before her. Being a twin has its perks.
