I’m THAT girl. I’m the girl who has mostly all guy friends. All of my friendships with my male friends are strictly platonic. Nothing romantic has every happened between us. I love hanging out with guys because they’re low key. Drama? Never! The few times I’ve had small disagreements with any of my guy friends, it blows over and all is quickly forgiven. On the other hand when I’ve had disagreements with my girlfriends, small disagreements turn into World War III and have sometimes been the end of the friendship. Overall I love hanging out with guys because when you’re “one of the boys” you can pretty much talk about anything, watch sports, go out to eat, watch movies and have a fun, low-key friendship. But having guy friends, doesn’t always fill the void of not having a group of close girlfriends.
Sometimes I wish I had a group of girlfriends to drink wine with, go shopping with and discuss boys with. I used to watch Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and wish I could have friendships as real as the girls in the movie. I wanted to be able to have shared experiences, share secrets and bond with a close group of girls. That never happened.
There are certain things you can only do with girls. Most guys don’t want to go get pedicures with you, shop at Victoria Secrets or spend an hour browsing through makeup at Ulta. Those are experiences you share with your girlfriends.
But in the end, I’m a girl that just does better with guy friends. So maybe I can’t buy makeup with my best male friend and he doesn’t want to get pedicures with me, but he’s still a caring, amazing friend. I’ll keep dreaming and maybe one day I’ll have a great group of girlfriends. But until then I’ll keep appreciating my awesome group of guy friends.
