What It's Like Attending Eckerd College.

To All Our High School Friends And Families Who Don't Understand Our Eckerd Bubble

What It's Like Attending Eckerd College.

Eckerd College is a small, liberal arts school located in St. Petersburg, Florida. We are known to live in "The Eckerd Bubble" and tend to refer to it as "Camp Eckerd." It may seem like we really don't go to class, but somehow we all make it there.

The thing we fear the most is this because well, shoes aren't worn. Ever. And we probably are in bathing suits more than actual clothes.

And in fact, we kind of just live by this motto

We are really all just a bunch of weird people and tend to follow the "Keep Eckerd Weird" motto too.

And our school motto is "Think Outside."

We just really like to learn outside and play with animals.

Including our old friend "Stumpy" the gator.

There's also this crazy "Pubcoon" that scares away half the Eckerd population from eating at the Pub.

We just find great entertainment being one with nature.

Longboards are the must-have of Eckerd students.

And so are togas.

And body paint because "Keep Eckerd Weird."

There are hammocks, everywhere.

And we tend to study in them more than in the library.

Eckerd has a lot of awesome programs like the Petlife program, which allows us to have really whatever pets we want on campus with us. There's the normal pets like dogs and cats, but it's not uncommon to see snakes, lizards, hedgehogs, and rabbits too.

And sometimes you see them walking around campus.

Or hanging out in the sun.

Another great program we have is the Yellow Bike Program. We just hop on a bike, head to our destination, and drop it for the next person. To be honest, it's one of the coolest ideas ever and you can find a bike just about anywhere.

And probably the best program we have is the Waterfront program. Kayaking, paddle boarding, windsurfing and sailing are all activities we are offered and when we do have an off day from school work, we really take advantage of it.

And I'm pretty sure we convinced our parents we don't have class and are not even college students because everything just seems like a summer camp.

Besides all the programs, we do have a lot of sports teams that compete at the Division II level. We may not have a football team, but we have many other sports to keep us entertained.

And the athletes are pretty cool too.

But we also do some strange things like celebrating "Jayzeaster" religiously. One morning, we all wake up and find posters of Jay-z plastered everywhere. I mean, you literally cannot go anywhere on campus that day without seeing a poster of the legendary Jay Z. Floating shrines? Check. 2,000 prints? Check. Massive six foot by six-foot banners? Check. They're everywhere.

Everywhere....

Everywhere...

But probably the best part of Eckerd is the views. Every night there are gatherings to watch the sunset.

Because, well, tuition is so high we better at least get some great views.

Eckerd is just so great, even the sidewalks sparkle.

Magical things happen here at Eckerd.

And we really make friends for life.

And when it's all over, our graduation is on our beloved South Beach.

And even our pets get to graduate and celebrate their years at Eckerd.

It really is a "college that changes lives."

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
