What Is UGA’s AD Club?
University of Georgia AdClub

ADClub is a Grady organization that provides real agency knowledge and experience to UGA students. During their weekly meetings, students get the opportunity to gain new skills while participating in hands-on workshops. Professionals from both the Athens and Atlanta areas are brought every once in awhile in to discuss their side of the industry and their own specific niche. Here are five reasons you should join ADClub.

1. Networking opportunities

Students have the chance to stay after meetings and network with guest speakers. This is the initial point of contact, and soon after students are keeping in touch and can in the future receive help with employment. If you want 500+ connections on LinkedIn, here's the place to get it!

2. Real Experience

Members of AdClub are also a part of Talking Dog. Talking Dog is the UGA’s only student-run, full-service advertising agency. This opportunity is similar to having an on-campus internship where you gain real world experience in the advertising field. Besides this opportunity, you have the chance to be a part of the Atlanta Broadcast and Advertising Club Mentorship Program. This is a mentor/mentee program where you can learn a great deal about advertising while expanding your network.

3. You can tour some awesome agencies

Members of AdClub get the opportunity to go to Atlanta for a full day, once in the fall, once in the spring, and tour 3 agencies in that day. These tours consist of meeting many different people in the agency ranging from entry-level positions to senior-level employees all the way to CEOs!

These business professionals come in and tell the members about their agency, give a tour, and open the discussion for Q&A. This is a great opportunity to learn what actually happens in a real agency, which is information that is often hard to grasp just in a classroom setting

4. Shadow a professional for the day

AdClub members get paired with a professional at an advertising agency in Atlanta to go shadow them for a whole day in the Spring. Although students’ experience differs based on the agency or professional they are shadowing, the day can often include things such as: helping create actual creative work, writing copy for an ad, sitting in on client meetings, and so much more!

5. It’s not just for advertising students!

Students from all fields of study are welcome to be a part of the amazing club. “I’m so happy I got involved in AdClub because as a PR student. It has given a more diverse outlook on the communications industry that varies from what I learn in my classes. I also have made so many great friends though AdClub, and it’s been a great opportunity to meet and network with my peers who share a common interest and are working towards a similar goal after graduation.” - Maddie Weiss, senior.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
