True Beauty is more than what you see

Have you ever gone to a photo shoot with a bare face? That’s right I said a bare face, all natural, make up free. Well, neither had I until now. And let me tell you I have never felt more beautiful.

Recently, I participated in a photo shoot for Jessica Works photography. Mrs. Jessica Works lives in Fort Payne and offers photography services across northeast Alabama. Works is a proud mother, wife, and entrepreneur. Her senior sessions come with professional hair and makeup, as well as outfit consulting. Works goes above and beyond to ensure that every one of her clients looks and feels their absolute best on shoot day.

This photo shoot, however, was very different. Works, along with many other photographers decided to participate in the Project Beauty 360 movement. This was Works second year hosting this shoot, and this year the proceeds went to "The Summit" a local women's ministry. When I saw that she was doing the shoot again this year, I just knew that I had to join in.

The theme of this shoot is to allow women to express their true beauty in all of its natural glory. That is written, Project Beauty is a bare-faced photo shoot. The images taken at the shoot are not retouched. Every woman is pictured with a natural face.

Each person who has their picture taken writes what true beauty means to them. Works then take the written word and post it beside the images that she posts on her Instagram @jworksphoto. She even got in on the action as well as one of my friends from high school, Chloe McMahon. Chloe's written word is by far one of my favorites. Chloe says “...Beauty is nothing less than the fruit of the radical transformation of my soul through Christ."

Women of all ages got in on the shoot, there were even some young girls pictured with their moms. Even though these girls are young, I feel as though Project Beauty is capable of making a huge impact on them. It can be hard growing up, especially if you do not look according to industry standard. These girls are seeing their moms pictured for who they really are.

This shoot was such an inspiration to me. I have always been a little insecure about how I look, and that I am not tall, tan, or blonde. This shoot was an eye-opener, especially after seeing the final images that are so stunningly beautiful. Every woman pictured is different, and every person is beautiful in their own way.

Here are just a few of my favorites from the shoot

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
