The thing that sets humans apart from every other animal on the planet is that we have the ability to perceive emotion, feel things, and comprehend what is happening in the world around us. This gives us the advantages of being able to question why things happen and what could happen in the future. We all know that there is only one thing we all have in common: we live, and then we die. We're able to understand this through our complex and ever-changing brain, and this also gives us the ability to seek purpose in the things we do.
Like many others, I'm terrified of death. Why do we die? What does it feel like to die? What will happen after I die? Since we only have a limited number of days on the Earth, we all seek to find a purpose for our life. Some people seek success and wealth, while others seek a family and love. Some people find purpose through religion, learning that when we die, we go to heaven. Even with all of our differences, there is only one thing that is truly inevitable: death.
Since we are such remarkable creatures, we are able to contemplate the true meaning of life. When in reality, it might be nothing. It's sad to think about how small of a fragment we are compared to the size of the entire Universe and think about how our lives are truly minuscule and might hold absolutely no effect on the world as we know it.
Maybe we are just one dot on a huge spectrum, and maybe we don't have a purpose at all in being here. We all die, as far as we know, so the real purpose of life is to feel good about the things you have done. When it is your time to go, what do you want to reminisce on before-hand?
Your life is your own, it doesn't matter to anyone or anything that you do with it. If you want to see the world, start traveling. Whatever it is that you feel is important that you do before you die, do it. Maybe you won't make a huge mark on the world, but you'll make a mark on your own life, and the way I see it, that's a whole lot better.
