What International Women's Day Means
E News

March 8th.

International Women's Day is a day meant to commemorate women's rights. This day never meant much to me, until this year.

This year, International Women's Day meant something different for everyone.

For women in some countries overseas, this day was a hope that one day they will be offered quality education. It is a day that they have hope that they can one day be equal in society, instead of being shunned under the hand of a man. I think it's important that we remember these women daily because while we have gained our rights, they continue to fight silently for their's every single day.

For myself, it gave me a moment to look at the influential women in my life, especially my mom. It gave me some peace knowing that I was raised to be a strong, independent, smart, and hard-working woman. It gave me peace knowing I have a great role model to look up to.

For some girls, this day meant remembering their mothers. This day meant that though they may have never gotten to know their mothers for long, they still have someone to look up to in heaven.

For some husbands, this day meant appreciation for their wives. Though they may be the biggest pain in their life, his woman is a man's pride and joy. He should take a moment to thank her for all that she does.

For mothers, it was a day to look upon their daughters and know that they are raising future superstars. They were able to be proud of themselves and proud of their family, knowing what kind of people they will be when they grow up. This was a day for them to know that motherhood is one of the hardest jobs on the planet, yet they still carry themselves with grace.

For women in the workforce, it was a day to look at their accomplishments and know that they have worked so incredibly hard to be where they are. With or without a partner in life, these women can look at their career and know that they put every ounce of strength and sweat into their life's work.

For women part of the LGBTQ community, this was a day to see how far they have come. This was a day to know that there is still a long road ahead, but that they have made incredible strides among society that no one ever thought was possible.

For Christian women, it was a day to look at God and know He put us here for a purpose. It was a day to open the Bible and read Genesis, and know that original sin may have made us fall, but that we attempt to rise every day to greatness and eternal life.

This day is not just for women. It is for everyone. You don't have to be a feminist to know that International Women's Day is an important day. It takes on a new meaning for everyone, and that is what is so incredible about it. This year it took on a whole new meaning for me; I hope it did the same for you.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
