What I'll Miss The Most About Home While At College

As much I love college, I have to admit I will miss a lot of things about being home.

If you're a college student and you're anything like me, then you've had a countdown going until move in day since you first moved back home. I'm so happy that I chose a college that I love so much and that I miss so much while I am gone. But now that it's time to go back to college (and I am unbelievably happy), I think I need to do some reflection on all the things I'll miss about home.

My Best Friend

It's hard to imagine that after being by her side and making so many memories throughout middle school and high school, that I went through a year of my life with her learning about everything I'm doing via phone. And now I'm about to do that again, but every year our friendship grows stronger so I have that to help me through. As much as I love all of my college friends, it doesn't make me miss my best friend any less while at school.

My Parents

I work a lot during the summer and so do all my friends. Our schedules usually collide so that means I spend a lot of time with my parents in the summer, especially my mom. I eat every single meal with them and whenever I had a day off from work, odds are I was spending the day with them.

My Mom's Cooking

Not that dining hall food is awful (jk it is), but my mom's cooking will never even compare and I'm going to miss it so much. After a long day of school in high school or the summer, I can come home and open up the fridge and find a nice meal, but at school I come home and all I have find are some granola bars.

My Hometown

I'm going to miss walking downtown to get an ice cream and seeing the same familiar faces that I've seen since I was a little kid. It's nice to know wherever you go that there is always someone looking out for you and someone who cares about how you're doing.

My Bed

If you've ever had a queen sized bed, you know how nice it is. Now imagine going from that to a twin sized bed, which, let's be honest, no one can guess how many people have slept on. Time to say goodbye to a perfect night's sleep. But who has time to sleep in college anyway?

Having My Own Bathroom

Almost my whole life, I've never really had to share a bathroom with anyone else, except for short periods of time. If there's toothpaste in the sink, it's because of me, or if there is a hair in the shower then I know it's mine, but in college, it's a completely different story. Luckily for me, I only have to share a bathroom with girls, but still I will miss the sanitariness or having my own bathroom.

Regardless of all the things I'm going to miss, I am so excited to be back on campus with my friends and believe it or not, I'm actually excited for classes to start too!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
