I have been blessed with being an older sister. It has granted me a life-long best friend. However, there are some things these articles never seem to mention. That is, what it’s really like having a sister, especially one who is close in age.

1. You will never have your closet to yourself.

Clothes will be missing 24/7, and even though you take her clothes too, you will still put up a fight. She will also try to wash your clothes, which will result in them shrinking down to her size. She looks up to you, and your clothes are probably better than hers.

2. She will never hold back from telling you how she feels.

Even if it hurts your feelings, in her mind, she's doing you a favor. She'll tell you if that outfit looks terrible, if the guy you like is a waste of your time, and if you have a bad attitude. This is probably the hardest thing you will endure because she is constantly trying to make you a better person.

3. You will never agree on anything.

She won't like the same sports teams as you, she won't want the same food for dinner that you want, nor does she have the same taste in boys. Even though you both share the same genes, it's like you two were mentally constructed on opposite sides of the world. This will teach you how to embrace people who are different than you. At the end of the day, you share one common ground... the love you have for each other.

4. She is more outspoken and strong because of you.

Maybe it was all those times you bullied her growing up because she was younger than you. It could have been the way you dictated which games to play and which Barbie was yours. She learned how to stick up for herself. This will bring you peace by knowing that she will never put up with anyone who tries to do her wrong.

5. You are individuals, but also one in the same.

You are each other's rock and shoulder to lean on. When someone is trying to harm the other, that person will wish they had turned the other cheek. You are the definition of a "dynamic duo," and everyone that surrounds you will know it. She's everything you will aspire to be one day, and you couldn't be prouder of who she turned out to be.

Never go a day without telling her or showing her that you love her. She is the person that will push you for the rest of your life to be the best person you can possibly be. She is your forever friend and your forever sister, no matter what the distance may be.
