What Happens When Your Roommate Becomes Your Best Friend

If you can live with them, then you'll probably be friends forever.

Your freshman year of college is already freaky enough as it is, but adding the fact that you will most likely be living with a complete stranger for a whole school year just adds on to that whole fear factor. It’s a hit or miss on the roommate lottery. But if you’re like me, you won big time on your first college roommate. You became best friends, inseparable, and you two are basically attached at the hip.

I can never thank my first roommate/best friend enough. She has seen me at my best and through my worst. She forgave me when I forgot to take out the trash, even though she asked me to do it yesterday, and she always was able to deal with my annoying sleep talking. Here’s a few things that mean you are rooming with your best friend:

1. You fight over really dumb things, but you always seem to make up.

2. She will change out of her sweatpants to go to a social event with you because you can’t just show up alone.

3. Hitting up that pizza place at 1 a.m. is never an arguable subject, no matter how much homework either of you have.

4. You know when to give her chocolate, advice or just when to call her on her crap. And of course, she knows when to do the same.

5. Your family and friends at some point have thought you were dating, but you both know your relationship is much closer than that.

6. You get her addicted to "Glee," and she gets you addicted to "Orange Is The New Black."

7. A planned night of hitting up house parties easily turns into a chocolate, wine and chill kind of night back in the comfort of your own dorm.

8. You have casual life talks until the break of dawn. Because, why the hell not?

9. You both take turns playing the mom role. You know what she has to have when her strep throat comes back, and she knows exactly what to do when you slice a part of your finger off at work. It’s casual.

10. You’ll probably fall asleep talking to each other.

11. You get so comfortable with each other to where pants become an option. You even dance to old Taylor Swift songs in baggy T-shirts and VS underwear almost daily.

12. Your room decoration slays everybody else's. Everything is matched perfectly and most of it wasn’t even planned. You may even come to school with the same bedspread, you never know.

13. You know EXACTLY what she means by her text messages. Even if it’s all jumbled, you get the point, though it may look like a foreign language to someone else.

14, You’re never lonely, but you know when the other needs their alone time.

15. She checks your selfies before you post them. I mean, help your sista out, ya know?

16. She knows all of your secrets, and you know all of hers. Both of you are basically dead if any of those secrets slip out.

17. She gets you, you get her, and basically every wall you’ve ever managed to build is broken by your wine-loving, choco-holic, boy-crazed best friend.

College is scary enough as it is, but if you manage to get lucky, your roommate will become your best friend through it all, no matter what. No matter how many fights you have over cleaning your side of the room, how many mornings she wakes you up early when she’s getting ready for her morning class and no matter how many mean looks she tries to give you after you ate the last piece of chocolate, you’re gonna love her. You’ll hate her guts sometimes, but you’ll always love her.

Your first college roommate will always hold a big piece of your heart, especially if you became as close as I did with mine. The acceptance that you experience rooming with the one person who knows you, every weird piece of you, is the best feeling you’ll ever have. The fun never really ends

So, here’s a giant thank you to my first college roommate. You helped mold me into the semi-cool, shopping-addicted, chocolate-loving girl I am today. You’re the best, best friend I’ve ever had, and I couldn’t have asked for a better first roomie.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
