Maybe you just got out of a long-time relationship (or friendship), or you had to change schools and start all over. Whatever it is, a lot of big changes in your life will make you re-evaluate yourself and everything you are, no matter what stage of life you’re in. What happens then?
Just like many people my age, change has now become a normal occurrence in my life since college started. New classes, job(s), clubs, friends, etc. When things seem to be constantly changing, you realize how much you really start to find yourself and what you want out of life. Your future seems to get a lot closer and scarier by the second and even more change will be coming your way pretty soon. While finding yourself is scary as anything, it is also the best thing you could do for yourself.
I have started to realize what I really need in my life and, inevitably, what I do not need in my life since I started school. Seeing the world through new eyes is a big part of college because of the connections you make with people. Some people become permanent fixtures throughout the years and others are just temporary, and that’s okay. Even if you thought you would never lose someone, maybe being on your own for a while will be good for you. I have found out more of what makes me happy and I have found more time for myself to do those things. Even though life is busy and stressful, you should always find time to do the things that make you happy because putting yourself first is important.
Even though I’ve been unsure about what I have decided to peruse with my career (and my life) after I graduate, I have started to open my eyes to the many possibilities that await me and my future. Your path may change many times but sometimes that’s just what you need in order to find out what you really want out of life. If you keep going in one direction, you miss out on another path completely. Doing just that can make you miss some of the best possibilities for yourself.
Don’t get me wrong, change isn’t easy to handle sometimes and it can be stressful, believe me, I know. However, throughout all of the madness in your life sometimes it is good to have to find out who you really are and what you want out of life. When you start to get comfortable with the life you lead, try new things to spice it up. Even just taking a class you wouldn’t normally take might be what you need. Never settle for what is just good enough. Many things will change through the years and life may not always seem so certain, but it’s good to know yourself and your desires. After all, what kind of a life is it if you’re not doing what you love?
