Get pumped! Get ready! Freshman week is around the corner! Freshman week is such a great advantage for preparation into the school year. There will be several events to enjoy. Definitely go to them it's worth the shot. I encourage many freshmen to go, because this isn't anything you can get back. Everyone may have a different experience, but it's what you make it. The saying "it's what you make it" was told to me a lot my freshman year and I never got a grasp on the meaning of that saying until I really went through my freshman year. I can say freshman week really is what you make it! A more in depth explanation of that saying is simply reevaluating your perception on things. For an example during my freshman week there was two different types of students.

One type is the student that gets to Langston during freshman week, but decides that they'd rather stay in their dorm throughout events and activities. Now there's nothing wrong with that you may just be an introvert. However, there was a good amount of people I know who missed out on the events and activities resulting in not getting to experience the memories made throughout the week. I don't encourage freshmen to do that, because like you had all summer to be in your house or whatever. College is a new chapter and Langston university takes out the the time to provide a special week just for you all. Why not get out your comfort zone? Slowly but surely the university will grow on you.

The other type of person is the type to get out and explore activities. The activities are all enjoyable! You may have a few meetings in between, but you can still take advantage of that by getting to know people at each event. Also I do understand that maybe you're not interested in going to events and activities. That's fine, I just want all freshmen to understand to utilize what the school had provided. If you don't want to get out and do activities then maybe just take the time getting to know your ambassador's and residential assistant's. They are there to help you so don't be afraid to build a connection. You may need them further down the year. Whether you simply don't have transportation anywhere, help with homework, school situations, or just getting around campus. They can certainly help you know where your classes are. Just reach out for assistance!

Hopefully the week helps you all warm up to the campus, because when the upperclassmen come it's a even greater scene! So get to know each other class of 2020! I really hope you all's week kicks off great! Just please make sure you go and see on what everything Langston has to offer. Education comes first but also you gotta enjoy your week! Despite any things that are bothering you you've got to get out of that and see the bigger picture. There's so many people for you to meet! So don't close yourself inside your dorm.

Langston is like a literal family. You may hear that a lot but it is so true. You'll hear most Langstonites be like "that's my bro/sis" (not technically, but the friendship/ relationship tends to get that strong). So there will be people that actually are there for you. For the ones that aren't... well, don't worry about them! Just find the few that do any it'll help you throughout your four years at Langston with them!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
