What My First Semester Of College Has Taught Me

I couldn't have asked for a better first semester, better roomies, or a better over all experience. Aggieland is exactly where my heart wants to be. Even though half of my entire high school resides in College, Station, I have met so many awesome people from all around Texas and the U.S. I’ve made so many new life long friends that I only have college to thank for and it’s only been one semester!

Now I could go on and on about how college has thought me time management, how to be independent, how to build more self-confidence, building a good relationship with your professors, and having a good time. But I’m going to talk about what college has thought me about myself THIS far.

I’ve learned that I can't believe how stupid I was a year ago. Honestly who was I?? Such a different human mentally, it’s crazy. If there is anything I want to stress to you right now is that you need to make your own opinions on how you view politics and news. Social media is ruse ladies and gentlemen.

Don't let Twitter make those political and social decisions for you. Do your own research and actual understand the content you are standing up for because 99.9% of the time, whatever tweet you're stressing over is written by an uneducated teen who also got it’s information from twitter. It really hit me hard when people would ask me political questions before and I had no idea what to say. It was pretty embarrassing, I'm sorry if you've had to deal with me then. Honestly my parents were always right!! I guess I was just going through a phase. This is the process you go through becoming your own person.

Next, I have learned about what I want in life and in a relationship. Value is such a big thing. I love having fun as much as the next person but man does it get old having to introduce yourself a million times before you find someone who cares enough to want to be there for a while. You need to understand how valuable you are. You need to understand your own worth. Before you know your worth, how do you expect other people to respect you?

And lastly, know how much you need God. If there is anyone who is going to listen to you go on and on about your problems and have the power to help you get through them, it’s God. Whether your problems are big or small, he will always be there to hear you out an forgive you when you're wrong. God knows you better than you know yourself. He will alway have a plan for you.

I’m so excited to see what else college will throw my way. While it’s been quite the ride, I’m so happy I got to learn so much about myself along the way.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
