What Exam Weeks Look Like When You Have ADHD

Exam weeks are some of the most dreaded periods of time for a college student. I also need to disclose that I have some serious ADHD that I refuse to take my medication for (and yes, I am actually diagnosed). So, believe you me, this week has been one hell of a challenge. So, this is what an exam week usually surmounts to for people like me.

1. We clean

Every thing needs to be cleaned and organized first before we can begin studying. I mean cleanliness is next to godliness. . . or something like that, right? Photo by Arnel Hasanovic on Unsplash.

2. We start nitpicking at our appearances

My goodness, look at these eyebrows. Woof. Yeah, when was the last time I tweezed these caterpillars? You know, because if you don’t look good then you won’t feel good. And if you don’t feel good, then how can you possibly ace that exam you should be studying for? Duh, it’s a no-brainer. Photo by Braydon Anderson on Unsplash

3. We eat, like every hour

Got to keep this big brain nourished for all this studying. Even though we know it’s just an excuse to take a break from trying to study. Photo by Dane Deaner on Unsplash

4. We work out

After eating everything in the house, you kind of start feeling like maybe, just maybe, all those calories aren’t going to go just to my brain. Yeah, I think I’ll do some sit-ups now. Photo by Lena Bell on Unsplash

5. We do some grocery shopping

I just can’t bear to see an empty fridge. Photo by Guus Baggermans on Unsplash

6. We take a nap

Grocery shopping is exhausting. Studying is so much more effective when you’re not tired. Photo by Kristopher Roller on Unsplash

7. We call people

We tell them about how much we must study, because in a weird way that feels almost like studying. I like to call it an underrepresented form of self-teaching. Photo by Hannah Wei on Unsplash

Thus, is the life of an ADHD college student. Happy finals week to us!

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
