So What Exactly Does Being "Bad and Boujiee" Mean?

So I'm sure in the past few months you've heard these famous words at least once,"bad and boujiee," and I'm sure to some extent you're unsure what the actual definition of that is. Personally, I think the answer to the question is dependent upon how you perceive it. If you're a modern young woman, you're probably inclined to think that being "bad and boujiee" means living a lavish lifestyle, and wearing designer brands and not settling for anything less than what you see as the "best," but if you're from a different area of thinking, being bad and boujiee takes on an entirely different meaning.

So if you're ultimately unfamiliar with the term, its origin is from the song by the same name from the rap group Migos. This song is also where the world famous "rain drop, drop top" meme originated. In the song, they speak about a rather than ideal lifestyle, but being the best at what they do in the drug industry and having their girlfriends be strong behind them. The term bad, now means too good-looking and boujiee, a purposely misspelled version of bougie, means high maintenance, lavish, and somewhat stuck-up. These are all somewhat negative connotations, but I think we can use these words as terms of empowerment for our young women across the world.

Being "Bad and Boujiee" can mean more than just being attractive and stuck up. It can mean being your best self and not settling for anything less than that. That means taking over your life for the better. Being Boujiee can mean more than just wanting the top line name brands; being boujiee can mean wanting the best for yourself in any situation you're in and refusing to accept less than what you know you're worth. There should never be a time where you have to ask yourself "is this the best I want to be?" You should know almost immediately that you're doing what you set out before you even started. Being bad means knowing you're attractive and being comfortable in you're own skin, not having to have validation from anyone, being happy with what you have, and being completely comfortable with the way you're being perceived. Just because you hear words said in a rap song, doesn't mean you have to accept that as their final definition.

Now, I know my definitions may be a stretch to say or too think, but it's a nice alternative to what most people hear nowadays. Now more than ever our young girls need to be lifted up rather than being put down and being told to be "bad and boujiee" should mean far more than just standing behind your man while he's doing his thing in the drug industry. So, what exactly does it mean to be bad and boujiee? It can mean whatever you want; however, if you're like me, it means being the best you possibly can be. You shouldn't allow anyone to bring you down with just simple words. Young girls should start seeing themselves more as Michelle Obama's and Nancy Reagan's. Being attractive, intelligent, supportive of their spouses, but most importantly INDEPENDENT because there is no doubt in my mind that the real definition of boujiee is those two women. Not settling for less than the best for not just themselves but everyone they meet.

It's perfectly fine to see yourself as only high maintenance, but there is so much more that the world is just waiting on from the next generation of truly "bad and boujiee" young women.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
