Most of the films that are released in movie theaters are based on books. It is hard to think of a movie that isn't based on a popular young adult book or children's book. Even autobiographies sometimes get made into films. It is phenomenal books like "The Hunger Games" and "The Fault In Our Stars" that come to mind when we think of books that come to the big screen.
However, there are a lot of great quality books that are also bestsellers or not that I believe would make great movies. Even if they do not reach number one at the box office they would sell well, especially if renowned actors like Lucy Hale or Miley Cyrus were to star in them. More importantly, they have great plots and wonderful ideas. The books I think would make awesome movies are as dark as books like "Divergent" and the final Harry Potter book.
First up is "Incarnate" by Jodi Meadows. Reincarnation has always fascinated me and I always fantasize about being reborn into a more amazing person or into a butterfly, bird, wolf, whatever animal I admire. It is about a fictional world where everybody reincarnates. However, the main character Ana is a newsoul, meaning she is new to the world. For this reason everybody fears her and hates her. Only a few people are truly nice to her while others try to get rid of what they deem a threat. The book includes dragons as well as a tower that seems to be alive.
The remake of the classic Disney movie "Beauty and the Beast" comes out next year but one book based on this classic tale is "Cruel Beauty" by Rosamund Hodge. Anyone who loves fairytale retellings can appreciate this one. It is about a girl named Nyx who is forced to marry the evil ruler of her kingdom, Ignifex, and has been trained since birth to kill him in order to free her kingdom. However, as she learns more about him and is charmed by him, she falls in love with the monster she is supposed to hate and destroy. Nyx is a spunky, determined, strong young woman who struggles between duty and love.
Anyone who enjoys powers related to death would love a movie based on "The Body Finder" by Kimberly Derting. Violet Ambrose is a 16-year-old girl who has the power to sense dead bodies, finding them through echoes, which can be sounds, sights or tastes the dead leave behind so she can find them. She hates her gift, which she considers to be a curse, but she is the only one in her town who can stop a serial killer. While she tracks down the serial killer, she struggles to be noticed by her best friend Jay, whom she comes to view as more than just a friend.
Vampires are a novelty, although the genre has been overrun by dystopian movies and novels. But "Black City" is a combination of vampire and dystopian genres, a perfect book for vampire lovers and fans of "Divergent." The book takes place in a dystopian society where humans and vampires coexist side by side and the vampires are called Darklings. The Darklings are imprisoned in a ghetto and those who live outside the wall are slaves. Those who are half-human have certain rights although they are still hated, and one of them is a boy named Ash Fisher. He falls in love with Natalie Buchanan, a human girl and daughter of the Emissary, though they fight their forbidden feelings for one another, knowing they'll be executed if they are caught.
I am a big fan of angels, especially being Christian. Angel lovers will adore "Halo," written by Alexandra Adornetto. A young angel named Bethany is sent down to a sleepy town called Venus Cove with her siblings Ivy and Gabriel, older and more powerful, to spread goodness on earth. She meets and falls in love with a human boy named Xavier Woods, going against all of Heaven's rules. Then a demon comes to town, threatening to destroy the town and trying to tear Bethany and Xavier apart.
These are just books I would personally love to see adapted to the silver screen. Everyone has books they would love to see come into theaters or at least be made into a TV movie.
