I truly hope that one day every girl has the chance to have a truly genuine human as a best friend. I am lucky enough to already have this friend in my life. In the 6 years of friendship that is behind us she has embodied every trait that I believe makes someone a genuine human and a genuine friend. So here is everything she has taught me about being a genuine friend...
A genuine friend is someone who is always going to be there for you. Your problem could be silly but she is going to sit there and listen to every single thing you have to say. She is going to respond with interest, even if she fakes it a little, and she is going to help you solve the problem or just vent about it as much as you want. She will check up on you later to see how that problem has played out.
A genuine friend is going to tell you exactly what you need to hear, even if it isn't what you want to hear. She is going to call you out in an attempt to stop you from doing something stupid. Then when you do end up doing that thing you said you wouldn't she is going to be the first to say, "I told you so" but also be there to support you no matter what you did.
A genuine friend is also going to tell you exactly what you need to hear when you need to hear, before you even realize you needed to hear it. She will be the first person to tell you how strong you are. She will be the first person to tell you she supports you. She will be the first person to tell you she loves you. But, she might not say those things often only at the right moment when deep down she knows you need to hear them and that's what makes everything she says more meaningful and genuine.
Even when you haven't talked in days, weeks or months a genuine friend doesn't care. She understands that you haven't talked because life got busy she will always be there for you even if you really haven't talked in months. She doesn't need an explanation as to why you haven't caught up in awhile, she is just happy to hear from you or see you.
A genuine friend is going to forgive you for everything and anything. She knows you two are meant to be friends, she understands you make mistakes. She'll never get rid of you and she'll never let you get rid of her.
And most importantly a genuine friend is going to love you for everything you are, everything thing you have been and everything you will be.
To my friend when you read this – Sometimes I have a funny way of showing love but just know I love you more than you know. You are an amazing, strong, beautiful human being and I am so extremely blessed that I still have you even after all the ups and downs that occurred during our friendship. You can’t get rid of me now!
