When you join a sorority, you instantly become a part of something so much bigger than yourself. You're surrounded by 100+ girls that have your back no matter what, and that is truly an amazing thing. The best moment of your new member process is the day you receive the greatest gift; your big.
Becoming a big... is nerve wrecking and incredibly exciting. You're adding to your sorority family. You're taking a younger sister under your wing and showing her the ropes. You're starting a forever friendship and your room looks like a Michaels threw up all over it. You're up all night crafting and making sure that your new little will have the best week- attempting to guess who you are, but failing miserably because you've tricked her so well.
Becoming a little... Ah, the thrill! For a week, you are spoiled with presents and get the luxury of coming home to your dorm being covered in glitter, streamers, and balloons. You have no clue who your big is yet, but you already love her so much. She knows you too well; giving you your favorite candy/food, and buying you a new lettered shirt in your favorite color.
And then Big Little Reveal occurs and your big is now yours; the absolute best part of Big Little Week. My big has graduated (**crying**) and I still find myself going to her for advice, even though she's hundreds of miles away. It is always tough not being able to see each other but growing your family helps.
Becoming a big means a lot of responsibility. but it is the greatest responsibility. It helps you grow as a person, believe it or not, because your little now looks up to you. You have to be a good role model. Being a big means being someone's best friend, someone's shoulder to cry on and someone's partner in crime. I've seen the best of the best Big/Little relationships and I wish for everyone to have that same love for their sorority family. Your little will never feel alone once they get you as a big and you will teach her the true meaning of sisterhood.
When you take a little, you can only hope that you'll do good by her and be the best big possible. Bigs and little become best friends, someday even roommates and/or bridesmaids! I love my sorority family and I can't wait for new additions to our big, crazy bunch.
