Over the years social media has misconstrued the idea of what beauty really is. And by doing so, are making women feel the need to compare themselves to this idea of beauty and some of us may fall short to their ideals. So does that take away our beauty?
7 in 10 girls believe they are not good enough.
98% of women admit to feeling pressured to look a certain way.
92% of women want to change their appearance.
90% of eating disorders are found in women.
1 in 4 women are diagnosed with depression and anxiety.
So tell me, why are we doing this to ourselves?
Why are we letting one picture of a celebrity in a bikini rule our lives by taping it to our mirrors and refrigerators as a constant reminder of what we don't look like? Why are we listening to people who say things like, "the Kylie Jenner lip challenge is beautiful?" What ever happened to beauty is what's on the inside or in the eye of the beholder? Why are we letting other people define what beauty is for us?
We're losing who we are by trying to fit into society's mold and it's not okay. We need to realize that we are beautiful, no matter what other people definitions of it are. It's not about what designer purse we have or all of the MAC makeup we wear to make ourselves beautiful on the outside. Beauty is knowing your worth. It's having a relationship with God. It's putting others before yourself. It's knowing when to stand up for yourself. It's never compromising your morals. Beauty is who you are and not what others define you as.
"Beauty is a thing seldom seen. It is held by all within the soul it lies, waiting to come out to the surface, but it can only be found if someone is sharing your soul with you. Beauty is suppressed by the evils of the world. Only love can bring beauty out. Once seen, beauty never hides again. Not even hatred can deny beauty of it's true design. Beauty, although possessed by all by few and fewer yet will ever see one of the most beautiful sights - the beauty held by you."
