What Actually Happens In The Library

We all know you aren't actually studying.

What Actually Happens In The Library
Furman University

Your textbooks are spread out on the table, your headphones are in, and you're staring at your computer screen. You're in the library, so one would assume that you are studying for a test coming up, working on assignments that are due the next day, or maybe even working ahead. Let's face it, though, you're not doing any of the above. Instead, you're probably scrolling through your Facebook feed, taking BuzzFeed quizzes online, or maybe even watching Netflix. Let's explore the things that actually happen in the library.

1. Take at least one lap around the library to find your “spot.”

Important decisions include: upstairs vs. downstairs, comfy chair vs. table vs. cubicle, and by the windows in the back of the library vs. by the computers in the front of the library.

2. Put your bookbag down...

and immediately pull out your phone.

3. Respond to texts...

and check the weather, Instagram, and Snapchat.

4. Pull out your laptop...

and check Facebook.

5. Find the perfect Spotify playlist.

6. Take off your jacket.

7. Check Facebook and your phone again...

because something new could have occurred within the last few minutes (of course).

8. Think about online shopping.

9. Restrain yourself because you have a lot of homework and you are a broke college student.

10. Stress about how much homework you have to accomplish today.

11. Listen to the conversation of the people behind you.

12. Watch people.

13. Take out your books to look productive.

14. Snapchat a picture of how much homework you have been doing.

15. Check Facebook “one last time...”

and see that someone shared a quiz.

16. Check the time...

and realize that you have spent the last 20 minutes finding out “what animal you are,” “what your name really means,” and “what celebrity you look like.”

17. Realize that you are hungry and leave the library to get a snack.

18. Come back...

and realize that you don’t have a charger.

19. Come back...

and realize that it has been an hour since you first walked into the library and you still haven’t done any homework, but scroll through Instagram anyway.

20. Fill up your water bottle, take multiple “social laps,” and talk/distract your friends who are actually studying (are they really?).

21. Come back to your place in the library and repeat the steps again.

Let's be honest, you are probably reading this in the library right now. Don’t worry, it happens to the best of us.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
