We can all relate to waiting: in lines at grocery stores, for the next book to come out in a series, or even waiting for your significant other to finally be ready. It has been installed in our beings to wait for what we want. What if what we want isn’t ready? We wait for what feels like forever.
Patience is a virtue, but it’s also one of the hardest skills to master. The recent generations have developed a different patience that borders along the lines of tolerance. We’re always told to wait our turn to make a difference or go off and be something. Well, we’re still waiting. Waiting for someone to push us in the direction needed. Waiting for that perfect time to initiate and shine. Waiting for someone to believe in us.
We can only sit for so long before our legs are numb and we can’t stand on our own without stumbling. This is where the current generations are stuck at. We’ve been sitting for years in classrooms without encouragement or creativity so we don’t have the materials needed for success. The few who make it through to the top are the ones who escaped the grasp of bland and boring routines. They’re encouraged to make a difference and to be their best, but what about those who don’t have as many resources? We wait for someone to make a difference and just hope they come sooner rather than later.
We’re still waiting to get out and change something - whether it be creating a new dance move or ending world hunger. There are restrictions placed on us everywhere on what we can do, though. With presidential candidates wanting to build walls and share secrets that could end up with us all killed, what are we to do as a generation that wants a better world? How can we set forth and create peace and love when we’re shown hate and prejudice are the way we go?
We’ve been challenged to be the ones who make a difference and make the world a better place, but we haven’t been given the right materials and support to do so. So here we are, sitting in classrooms all around, hoping to get out of the mundane routine of life and be the one that can make love conquer all. We’re still waiting, though. Waiting for love, support, opportunities, chances to thrive, and most of all…change.
