I Went A Week Without Makeup And This Is What Happened

No, my skin did not magically become radiant.

I have terrible acne scars/marks. I wear makeup pretty much every day just to cover them up. I don't do a full face every day; however, I have been known to sneak concealer on even when going to places like water parks. I've been insecure. But this week I decided to try something new. I was at summer camp for a week and I did not put any makeup on at all. I've googled ways to fix my problem and everyone seemed to suggest going without makeup. This annoyed me to no end. If I didn't have acne scars, I wouldn't wear it at all. But I finally was given a real excuse to go a week without it and see what would come of it.

Here is what happened:

1. Nobody treated me different.

If you are hanging out with the right people, they will treat you the exact same. I've been blessed with friends who love me with my terrible complexion.

2. My boyfriend still told me I was beautiful.

If you are dating the right person, your makeup won't matter. They should love you for who you are and your actions, not what you look like.

3. It was really nice to be able to rub my face whenever.

Sweat, dirt, an itch, or paint? Being able to just take a towel and wipe it off was so freeing.

4. My skin cleared up.

I hardly even used face wash for a week, but I did not get one pimple. My scars did not magically go away overnight but overall my face looked a lot better by the end of the week.

5. Everyone has insecurities.

Everyone dislikes something about themselves. Both men and women, and if my biggest issue with myself is my acne scars, I'm doing alright.

6. I look way worse to myself than I do to other people.

When I would comment on my spots and marks, people said, "Oh I didn't even notice." It is so easy to stare at yourself in a mirror and pick out every little flaw but I promise nobody else is looking that hard.

7. Makeup does not make you beautiful.

Giving into society's beauty standards is so easy now. Try not to.

Actions truly do speak louder than words. So many things in life are beautiful and if you are happy with yourself and your actions, then you are beautiful.

Makeup is not inherently beautiful. Find beauty within yourself and it will radiate on the outside.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
