A Thank You Letter To My College Friends
Facebook: Kari Highman

This letter goes out to all the people I've met over the course of my three years in college. My life is forever changed because of you all, and I couldn't be happier that you're in my life. So here is a proper thank you, because you deserve it.

To my freshman roommate: Thank you for helping me survive orientation week because I couldn't have gotten through all those "getting-to-know-you" games without you. Thank you for making the best of our small, crappy dorm room and thank you for being willing to compromise. Thank you for going on 'adventures' with me. While we're not roommates anymore, I'm sure glad we've been able to stay friends.

To the ever-so-wise theatre major: Thank you for showing me the wonderful food at Old Bag, teaching me about the theater and inviting me to all your shows. Thank you for being willing to answer my random questions at 2 a.m. on Facebook messenger. Thank you for offering words of wisdom when I needed them most. Last but not least, thank you for the fun nights in your apartment, with good food and even better company. I miss those and you.

To the best person ever: Thank you for being my best friend. Thank you for talking to me during that English reception because we were both feeling so awkward. Thank you for always encouraging me. Thank you for understanding me when no one else seemed to. Thank you for surviving fiction writing with me. Thanks for the endless Chipotle runs and reminding me how good Coldstone ice cream is. Thank you for seeing me at my worst and helping me through it--and not judging me because of it. Thanks for being you, I couldn't ask for a better BFF.

To the girls in my essay class:Thank you for being the wonderful people that you are. You're so inspiring and make the class such a safe space. Shoutout to the girl who always looks flawless even in Adidas sweats-- can I be you, please? Thanks for showing me that I'm not the only one that's got sh*t to deal with. And to the girl that thinks she's too shy--I promise you're not. You've actually said some of the most intelligent things in that room to date, so thank you for showing that it's ok to be vulnerable. Thanks to the girl that sits across from me for making wonderful art and thank you to the senior that sits next to her for not being afraid to show your true colors. Thanks to the girl who sits next to me for always being so open--it's made me want to be the same way.

To my current suitemates: Thank you for being the wild bunch that you are. Thank you for the late night CVS runs and the many food comas we got ourselves into. Thank you for forgiving me and thank you for not holding a grudge. Thank you for helping me out when I needed it. Thanks for all the fun we've had this year--I can't wait to see what'll happen next.

To my future apartment-mates: Thank you for taking me into your trio. Thank you for sharing in my ideals and for checking up on me when I’ve had not-so-great days. Thank you for sharing in my pasta obsession and my addiction to chocolate ice cream. Thank you for all the after dinner walks and for letting me chill with you all in Clanby. Most importantly, thank you for being so warm and genuine.

Thank you all so much.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
