Welcome Weekend

Freshman move-in weekend is a weekend that most will remember and refer to throughout college. Some will refer to it for it's amazing experiences and others will for it's difficult lessons learned. So to help make sure this experience is perfect for all the new Mountaineers, here is a completely serious guide to help make sure this opening weekend is one you will never forget.

1. Wear your lanyard everywhere. Upperclassman think it's really cool when you wear your lanyard with your app card and key everywhere you go. Make sure you at least have it hanging out of your pocket for everyone to see

2. Zero Traffic. There is never much traffic for welcome weekend and there is always plenty of parking in Boone. No need to plan ahead for this aspect, it is better to just play it by ear.

3. Your roommate is going to be your best friend always. You're going to love spending every moment together and being in the same room all the time. There's no chance you're ever going to fight and opening weekend is a great time to push the limits with them so you can establish how awesome it is going to be for the rest of the year.

4. Show up with huge groups of guys to fraternity parties. Frat guys love it when you bring all your new freshman guy friends to their parties. All the guys from your floor should show up together so they know just how cool you are. There's no chance of you getting turned away if you're in a big group.

5. There will never be any house parties on Hill Street, Oak Street, or Howard Street. Not the place to have a good time at all.

6. Make sure to try your new South Carolina fake ID at the Kangaroo on 321. This is by far the easiest place because they never take fake ID's and let things slide.

7. Always bring your book bag to the party. This doesn't sketch anyone out at all.

8. Burnett's and other cheap liquors never lead to terrible all-day hangovers.

9. Wear warm clothes... House parties always stay at a nice cool temperature... and they never run out of toilet paper.

10. Dorm room parties: These are a great idea and an awesome way to meet your RA. So invite them, turn the music up loud, and drink those Four Loco's you bought at the Kangaroo with your South Carolina fake ID.

11. Make sure you brag about how cool you were in high school and all the crazy parties you threw. Trust me, all the upperclassmen really want to know and genuinely care.

12. Your RA won't hear those bottles clinking together in your book bag when you're sneaking it into your room.

13. Everyone goes to all the Appalcore events and Dorm meetings, so make sure you attend all of them.

14. Bring everything . You'll have tons of space in your gigantic dorm rooms and definitely won't end up having to send anything back with your parents

15. Boone Student Beeper is a Myth.

16. Make sure you use that South Carolina fake at the easy bars like TApp Room, The Local, and Galileo's. Avoid Parthenon at all costs, they are extremely strict there.

17. The dining hall is NOT called Central, so tell the upperclassmen you're going to Roess to eat... they will understand.

18. That picture that you want to take at Rough Ridge is so originally and you look super adventurous cause no one around here ever hikes.

19. You won't get sick of all the Yosef puns.

20. This list is completely serious.

If you stick to this set of easy guidelines, you're destined to have a great start to your time in Boone.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
