It's done. It is finally done. The space that was once taken over by bursts of purple, lime green and an electric blue got a makeover. The space I had once decorated thinking it would be perfect for a "teenager" is now more appropriately decorated. I've mixed the old with the new to transform, a 13 year old's bedroom into a beautiful, mature space for a young lady. I'm a nineteen year old country girl at heart, and this rustic, farmhouse inspired bedroom could not be more perfect or fitting for myself. It is now a space that my mom comments will be a lovely guest room someday. It's safe to say I am proud of my work and artistic eye. Feel free to call me Joanna Gaines.
BEFORE:
As a pre-teen in the fourth grade, the opportunity to paint my room was a BIG deal. My favorite colors at the time were clearly atrocious shades of blue, green and purple. In most cases these three cool colors compliment each other quite nicely. I, however, knew that these three shades, visible from outer space, would still be perfect for me as I got older. Little did I know at the time, I was horribly horribly wrong. It is important to note, though, that my family did try to talk me out of this decision. I thought they were being rude. Whoops!
AFTER:
A calming blue tone now covers the walls. Yellow accents remind me of the pizazz that once lit up this exact space, however, in a much classier way this time around. Rustic touches here and there tie the room together, and photos with friends and family make the space whole. I must thank Target, Walmart, Marshalls, Homegoods and my neighbor's curb for having such a great selection of furniture and decor to choose from.
I had a lot of fun giving this room a makeover. Fingers crossed that in eight more years, I'm not horrified by what I've done. (Let's hope I'm not living at home in eight years, but that's besides the point.) If you have the chance to re-do a space you've been dying to change, go for it. You certainly won't regret it. Or, at least, I don't.
