As long as I can remember, I had always had a hard time falling asleep. My mind is always racing, and it always seems that once I lay down in bed, I am no longer tired. So, I would be tossing and turning in bed for hours trying to fall asleep.
I tried everything I could think of. Sleepytime tea, reading before bed, being off my phone/laptop an hour before bed, and even sleeping pills. While some of them did help for a short period of time, I would always end up reverting back to my bad sleeping habits.
So, one day, I decided to do some more research on what can help me fall asleep and stay asleep at night. While looking, I came across a suggestion to try a weighted blanket.
After about a year of saying I should get a weighted blanket, a month ago, I finally did.
I got the Tranquility 15lb Weighted Blanket and it has changed my life.
You see, when I was younger, I would sleep with at least five blankets on top of me. Not because I was cold but rather because I needed the weight from the blankets to help me fall asleep. As I got older, I stopped doing that because I thought it was a bit excessive. But while using the weighted the blanket, the weight reminded me of what I used to do as a child. Until I got a weighted blanket, I never linked needing blanket weight to me being able to fall asleep.
The first night I used the blanket, I did not like it. That is because I was so used to tossing and turning, but the weighted blanket made that very difficult to do. So, I found it hard to just stay still. But I got very used to it just after a few nights of using this blanket.
After using it for a whole month, I have to say I found that my sleeping habits have improved.
I am falling asleep quicker and I am staying asleep throughout the night, which leads to me being more refreshed and energized in the morning and not sleeping until noon due to an inability to sleep.
Also, because I am not sleeping until noon, but rather waking up at normal hours, the time I am going to bed and waking up has changed into someone who has a healthy sleeping schedule.
For the first time in a very long time, I feel as if I am not the lazy bum who spends her days sleeping.
Sure, a weighted blanket is also good for people with anxiety, which is something I did notice get better while using this blanket. My mind was not racing with thoughts while I was trying to fall asleep.
However, I cannot give a clear answer to whether or not my anxiety is not bad because of the blanket or if it's because of it being summer and generally not a stressful time of year.
Whatever the case may be, I still recommend a weighted blanket for those who are having trouble falling asleep. It will be a total game-changer for your sleeping habits.
