Mug Night: [muhg] [nahyt] n|

"A specific night, typically weekly, where a local bar offers an extremely large quantity of beer for a very economical price in a mug branded by the bar. For a nominal fee, you can purchase a mug, which you can use again week after week. Usually very cheap beer, and typically offered by college bars. Example: 32 oz. of PBR for $1 with mug.”

Every Monday evening people gather at the local college bar for super cheap beer and socializing to get over the Monday blues. Two friends and I have made this our weekly tradition; it's the perfect time to catch up on life and escape the dreadful school thoughts, homework and any other responsibilities weighing us down. Just an hour a week to take a brain break is the perfect thing to look forward to every Monday. We have been going every week since school started and I’ve had quite a few thoughts...

I feel like a regular because I have my own mug to bring every week.

But I almost always forget my mug as we are walking out the door.

Shout out to Hooligans for being the “chill college bar” and thanks for letting it be acceptable to show up as casual as I want.

There’s no need to impress anyone, we are all just here to relax and drink with our friends.

Gotta squeeze between these people to get my mug filled.

Ah finally, I've been looking forward to this drink all day.

The earlier you get there, the more likely you are to score sitting on the comfy couches in the corner.

Prime spot to people watch.

The crunched beer can American flag creation is a classic.

Wow, I recognize basically everyone here…

Wait..is that? No..ugh it is. An ex-fling just came in.

Awkward hello and side hug...moving on.

Another one sitting by the pool table? Alright.

Shall we do introductions everyone?

But really, this town is not that big and there's literally one bar for everyone to accumulate at.

Note to self: no more dating in this town, they never go away. And they probably all know each other.

Alright more people watching.

Hold up...I recognize that guy sitting at the bar. Is that….my professor? That taught my class 6 hours ago?

Is this weird? *Awkward wave as we recognize each other.

Yes this is weird.

Still see him every week. Super casual.

But I guess we are both adults here...and this is normal?

Time check: 9:30? I’m tired already because its Monday and I’m actually a grandma.

My beer is only half gone, keep chatting and keep people watching. This is nice.

By week four we are finally starting to recognize the regulars.

Smoke-jumper guy is here, he still doesn’t recognize us from the last three times we’ve met him.

Still comes to introduce himself for the 4th time.

We still don't remember his name. This is fine, we'll see him next week I'm sure.

Because the three of us are actually 87 years old internally an hour is our time limit for this type of activity.

*Bar tender swoops in to try and re-fill our mugs.

Its almost my bed time lady, no more for us, thanks though.

Beers are finished, time to roll out.

Home at 10:45 - perfect time for bed.

Another successful one for the books and already looking forward to next week.

This Monday night deal is really working out for me. I get to hang with my favorite people, relax a little, drink a little and reward myself for getting through Monday. So, cheers to that my friends and I’ll see y’all next week.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
