After months and months of waiting, it's finally football time in Tennessee. If you're anything like me, you are too excited to watch the Vols play the first home game of the season, on September 1st. The way Vol fans will react for the first game of the year can best be told by one person and one person only, Michael Scott. So, here's what it is like to be a Tennessee Vol fan the week of the season opener.
1. Even though getting up for work or school on Monday is the worst, you're OK with it because you're one day closer to game day.
Honestly, we've waited MONTHS for this day to come. It's football time in Tennessee. Let's go.
2. Actually, getting to see the Vols play will keep you motivated for the week. Every day will be a good day because you're one step closer to being in Neyland Stadium.
Nothing or nobody can ruin this week for you.
3. By Tuesday, you probably already have your ticket, game day plans, and outfit picked out. You may be broke, but it's for the love of the Vols.
Did you really need that $95 Nike jersey from the Vol shop? Probably not, but you have to look your best for game day. It's a requirement.
4. You can forget trying to talk about anything besides football. Sorry professors, students just can't focus this week.
Don't expect us to read the chapter and summarize the meaning of it. We just can't, OK.
5. On Wednesday, you may see the other team's fans start trash talking the Vols.
Not in my house. It's unacceptable.
6. Honestly, how can someone not like the Vols?
What is wrong with you? How is orange not your favorite color?
7. But finally, after what felt like the longest week of your life, it's GAME DAY, y'all.
IT'S FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!
8. During the game, you realize how empty your life was without football season.
How did you survive so long without attending games in Neyland?
9. And before you know it, the game is over, and you'll have to patiently wait for the next one.
Life would be easier if the Vols played every, single day. There is no such thing as too much football.
10. Sometimes, it's hard to be a Vol fan, but hey, somebody has to do it.
Being a Vol fan is pretty rewarding, after all.
So, don't go too crazy while waiting for the game. It will be here before you know it. Don't forget to yell and scream every word to Rocky Top and wear as much orange as possible. It's football time in Tennessee. What a great time to be alive. Go Vols!
