A Week in the Life of a College Student

A typical week, whether we like it or not.

A Week in the Life of a College Student

Adults take each day of the week as the same old thing, while kids see every day as a brand new adventure. College students, however, face the week with expectations somewhere in the middle. A week as a college student includes everything from moments of extreme joy and drunkenness, to total depression and wanting nothing more than a nap. Whether it's Monday or Friday, this article breaks down the highs and lows of college life in one seven-day period.

Monday is the most hated day of the week for us college students. This is partially because we most likely have a test or project due which we procrastinated on over the weekend. Mainly, though, we hate Monday because it is the start of another long week filled with work, sleepless nights, and low-budget meals, particularly of the Ramen variety. Either way you look at it, this day is the most feared and dreaded of the whole week.

Tuesday is often called the "second Monday" or "misunderstood step-child" of the week, but is often the most productive day most college students have. Tuesday always seems like it will be a good day after surviving the horror of Monday. However the more we try to convince ourselves of it being okay, the more we realize that it's only the second day of the week. Plus, Tuesday nights mean one thing: chemistry lab.

Wednesday is when we students start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's hump day (cue the talking camel): a day where we realize that maybe we can actually make it through this week. Sure, we're still drowning in homework, and we're getting closer and closer to insanity as we realize that we still don't understand what's on that test for Friday. But Wednesday is here to give us an ounce of hope that we'll be done soon.

Thursday just seems to bring a smile to most collegiate faces, as many of us consider it to mean that the weekend is here. The wonderful phrase "Thirsty Thursday" encourages us to go out and drink because, quite frankly, we are already ready to be done with school work and this terrible week. First though, we acknowledge that we should attempt to study for that exam tomorrow...but it's just one exam, right?

Friday is finally here; T.G.I.F. indeed. Whether you went out last night or not is besides the point now. You're just happy that you finished your exam (even though you probably bombed it), and we can enjoy the fact that it's now socially acceptable to go out and party without feeling completely guilty.

Saturday is the Holy Grail of days for college students. Not only can we sleep in, but we have the opportunity to do more of what we actually want to get done--whether that's working out, going on a date or just stuffing yourself with cheese puffs while staring mindlessly at the television screen. No matter how you choose to spend it, as college students, we like Saturdays.

Sunday is easily most bittersweet day of the week for us. It allows us to take a breather and recover from last night's hangover, and we also get to savor our last day before Monday. However, that in itself is the downside. A sudden wave of panic smacks us college students in the face as we realize that there is still a lot of homework to be done by tomorrow. Many of us begin to question our ability to complete it and hate ourselves as we try to figure out why we didn't do this crap earlier.

And so, the week cycles back to the beginning as Monday rears its ugly head at us. Sad and tired, we college students can only shake our heads and ask, "is it Friday yet?"

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
