Everyone has once had to wear a mask, to hide what we were really feeling. Hiding behind a mask means we are playing a role, a character in front of other eyes compared until we are alone and the mask falls off realizing everything. This a poem I wrote showing that.
I wear a mask
Like superheroes do
They hide their true identities
Their true selves from the world
Letting their alto egos
Letting them take center stage
When I put on a mask
I am no longer an anxious college student
Drowning in fears of
Appending graduation and Future career
Being placed head first into the adult world
I am a confident girl
Without any worries
A girl who has everything under control
Just another pretty girl with a pretty smile
I am playing a part
Nothing is wrong
Everything is good
Feels like I'm reciting the same lines
And acting in the same play
Everyday
It isn't until the curtain goes down
And the day of fighting evil has stopped
When the mask can finally come off
The true identity is revealed
Red eyes from the tears spilled
Hair frazzled from daily stress
I am no superhero
or a star in a play
Just a mess of a college student
Dealing with the storm
They call life
Cracks start to show
And the mask start to get worn out
The mask won't hold up forever
And eventually
It will just fall off completely
Letting everything show
For everyone to see
