If Florida Colleges Were Girl Scout Cookies

It's the most wonderful time of the year.

Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall? I prefer Girl Scout cookie season. Each cookie has it's own unique flavor profile that I think best accompanies the varying personalities of beloved Florida Colleges. All cookie details came straight from the "Meet the Cookies" page on the Girl Scout's website so the science is pretty much inarguable. Here's to you all being bombarded on your way into Publix for the next two months!

S'mores- Florida State University

A classic just like FSU. Founded in 1851, its campus is on the oldest continuous site of higher education in the state. FSU's International Program is also one of the top study abroad programs in the nation, and the love for s'mores takes on a global scale.

Caramel deLites/Samoas- Rollins College

Each box sold aims to teach the scouts fairness and business ethics, and what better institution to embody that than Rollins? Not only is it known for its business school but is also located in upscale Winter Park, FL, where many businesses flourish and people can buy all the cookies their heart desires.

Lemonades/Savannah Smiles- University of Florida

With each box of Lemonades sold a Girl Scout learns about goal setting. Gators are no stranger to ambition; organizing and working hard are a second nature. Paired with the money management goal of Savannah Smiles, the tangy treats form the recipe for future CEOs (Cookie Eating Officials) likely found in the Swamp.

Thin Mints- University of Miami

Money management is a crucial skill for the Hurricanes; the insane tuition mixed with living in a major city means lots of Ramen noodle nights. It will all pay off though, Miami is a major business hub, not to mention a party destination like no other. Let's be real: if you bring the Thin Mints, you bring the party.

Peanut Butter Patties/Tagalongs- University of South Florida

This classic combo promotes decision making and critical thinking skills with each box sold. Bulls are well versed in both, as their acclaimed medical program is quite demanding. Plus, Peanut Butter Patties, like the Tampa Bay area, are super underrated.

Shortbread/Trefoils- University of Central Florida

These cookies help the scouts learn people skills, a must for Knights living in the hub of tourist Florida. Likewise, UCF's hospitality program is one of the best in the country.

Gluten Free Cookies - New College of Florida

Gluten free cookies, like NCF, are very inclusive and progressive. This year's flavors, Chocolate Chip Trios and Toffee-tastic, leave no one out of the euphoria inside every box. Did people even know there were gluten free Girl Scout Cookies? Did people even know New College of Florida existed? Well, they do now.

Sure, bikini season is just around the corner, but my "spring break bod" includes at least three boxes.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
