The 2016 election certainly divided the country and was certainly unlike any other. Many were expecting Hillary Clinton to win and become the first female president of the United States. With the biggest upset in election history, Donald Trump won and is the new president-elect. With Donald Trump's victory, the country has only been divided even further.
I am not one to be political, but I think this is something that goes far beyond politics. There is a much deeper, underlying issue here. This truly goes to show that you can be openly misogynistic, racist, bigoted, sexist, and STILL become the president. However, I think we all need to remember that we are not him. We are so much better. I am so incredibly proud of people recognizing that this is not okay and that something is very, very wrong with this. We need to remember that there is still so much good in this world right now. I'm not saying to completely disregard the fact that someone like Donald Trump is our next president, but to also remain positive while we acknowledge the issue at hand.
We can still be kind and do amazing things. There are still so many dogs that we can pet. There is so much darkness right now, and we need to be the light. There is so much good to be found. Find it. Embrace it. Be kind to one another. Set an example. Be the leader we wish we had.
We cannot change the results. However, we do have a say in the future. It is important that we stand together and remind ourselves that we can be better.
