Do not take today for granted. Do not think to yourself, "Oh I can do that tomorrow", or "I've got all week to do something". You never know what will happen. You never know if you will wake up in the morning. You never know if an accident will happen at home. You never know if a loved one may pass away behind the wheel on their way home tonight. You don't know if your mother or father will open their eyes tomorrow morning.
That thing you have been putting away until you are "not busy". You will always be busy. Do not go throughout the day with the mindset that you have more time. Things happen. Unexpected and unexplainable things happen EVERY DAY. Never think that you will have time later.
As James 4:13-14 states,Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit"; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.
We never know what will happen.
Take the story of a young father. Him and his wife are raising their 2 month old son. They are both working all day just to provide a better future for their son. They are working all day, and they are not spending any time with their child. Fast forward five years. Neither of them have good jobs. Their child is five years old. The babysitter is always at the house watching the child because the parents are still working all night and sleeping throughout the day.
Every day after school, the young child jumps off the bus, excited as a young child can be. All he wants is to spend time with his father. To play catch in the backyard. To run around and have his father chase him. To have his father simply hold him in his arms and play airplane. But his father is always busy. He is always at work, trying to get that promotion. The father always tells himself, "I will play with him when I am not busy. I will play with him tomorrow when I am not working".
Now the child is sixteen. It is the last day of school for the summer. He gets in his car with his friends, all excited that it is summer. Man, they will have the best summer. They can all drive now, which means they won't have to ask for rides anymore. They will spend all their time at the beach. They will get pizza every night, and they will have a blast.
The teenager arrives home later that night, and upon arriving at his house he notices his father at the computer desk. He asks his father if they can watch a baseball movie together. The father says "Not tonight, I am busy with work. Maybe tomorrow night".
The son is disappointed. Later that night, he gets a call from his friends. "Man, we heard about this sick party. Wanna join us tonight?" The disappointed teenager responds, "Yeah count me in. I'll be right there".
On the way to his friends house, this boy is hit by a car. The car did not stop at the stop sign. Lights and sirens are everywhere. The father gets a call from the police. "Sir, there was an accident with your son".
As the father arrives to the crash sight, he notices both cars. His son's car was completely destroyed, gone.
"Sir, you may want to sit down" the paramedic tells the father.
His son was killed on impact. He felt nothing.
There sat the father. Becoming emotionless as everything in front of him blurred and the tears began to gather in front of his eyes.
As he got back home, he pulled into the garage. Still in shock and full of tears, he opened his car door. There sat his sons baseball bat and gloves. "Can we play catch daddy"?
Never take time for granted. Always remember that tomorrow is not guaranteed. Tomorrow is a blessing, and we have to live as if it may never come. Always spend time with your family. As someone once told me, "We can make money tomorrow. But what we cannot do tomorrow is get the time back today that we took for granted".
We are not guaranteed tomorrow. Knowing that, what are you going to do today?
