Since the beginning of time, there has been discrimination against the LGBT in one form or the next. However, most recently there has been laws, yes laws, that have been in favor of preventing LGBT people from doing basic human things. One notable instance is in North Carolina. In North Carolina they are trying to pass a law to make trans-gendered people use the bathroom of the gender that is on their birth certificate. With this in mind I just want to throw a thought out there. Us in the LGBT community are human beings too. Woah, did you know that? Are you surprised? Are you shocked? Is this news to you? Well if it is, do some time traveling because it's 2016 and we live in a world of diversity, but still obtaining the quality of being a living-breathing human being.
By LGBT community, I mean every single letter in this big queer alphabet. Transgender, gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, gender fluid, asexual, everybody! We are all humans! Just because a few of us have a few extra sprinkles of absolute fabulousness, doesn't mean that we should be treated like animals in a zoo. I mean we are beautiful to look at, but we're not animals. This is the way wont to live our lives. People call being gay and trans and all that "a choice." I don't see why we choose to be discriminated against and live a life where we are not able to do basic human things like get married and go to the bathroom. We didn't choose to be this way, we chose to be proud of we are and accept that who we are is not a problem. It's a problem to those who can't accept you for you are. Also, it's not your job to wait for people to accept. Once you accept who you are, you live your life.
I'm going to get "religious" for a second, so be warned. I'm the first to admit that I'm not religious at all. However, I still have yet to find a valid reason to use religion to defend homophobia and bigotry. There is a plethora of many other things God condemns in the bible. Like having pre-marital sex, divorce, eating seafood, and having tattoos. However, you don't see people protesting against people with tattoos who eat seafood and have sex with their ex-wife. But, it seems people who don't harm anyone with the way they live their selves. We live in a society today where someone has to be offended by something and cause a conflict. Since LGBT is "outside the norm", it instantly falls in this direction of constantly being seen as offensive. You know what else is offensive? Seeing the same priest who preaches against the LGBT community, having sex with under-age children.
The trans community has seen so much horror and discrimination as much as anyone. In 2015 it was reported that there was at least 21 transgendered people murdered. Imagine, those 21 were reported, but there is thousands of transgender people getting killed or committing suicide because of who they are and how much they are seen as a hindrance to our society. Whenever you feel uncomfortable about something in your life, don't do you do everything in your power to change it for your own good? Well, that's what a transgender person feels like. They feel so uncomfortable and different in their physical body. That's not who they are mentally. They just want to be who they are without ridicule.
And that's what the LGBT is all about. Living your life and not giving two hoots about what anyone has to say. We preach love and equality and peace to live our lives, but we are always protested against and always given this negative notion by society. Yes, society has given us the benefit of the doubt and has been more accept, but is by the way of habit of being a nice person rather than genuinely accepting our community. We have sort of become the new "it thing." The new trend to follow. Well just because we live in a society that has been more accepting, we are people that existed since the beginning of time. We're not some Gucci purse or Channel shoes that are in every season. We are people just like everyone else. With that I mind I want to address the question "why isn't there a straight pride parade?" When you dirty looks for holding hands in public, then you can have a straight pride parade. Once being straight becomes a "sin" in the eyes of religion, then you can have a straight pride parade. Once you get chastised for the loving the opposite sex, then you can have a straight pride parade. When you get mugged or even killed because of who love or who you are, then you can have a straight pride parade. The very reason we have a gay pride parade is the very reason there is a black history month. We have to celebrate who we are, how far we have come, and where we to progress in the future. Being gay and black, I have a hell of a lot to celebrate. To sum up what I'm saying, I am saying that just because there is one thing about us that is different, it doesn't make us a wild species. The world we live in was meant to be different. We were meant to have gays, blacks, whites, Hispanics, trans people, everyone. That's what makes us flourish is our ability to mesh together but still be unique in who we are individually. We are humans too, just a little more fabulous and fierce.
