10 Ways To Survive Finals Week
The Odyssey

The week we all dread as college students is approaching. Yeah, you guessed it: finals week. Basically, for two weeks, we’re all going to feel tired, irritable, and stressed. However, there are a few things you can do to prepare yourself for this monstrosity of a week.

1. Open your textbook and don’t even look at it.

Yeah, that’s right. Literally just open it and ignore it while pretending that you’re studying. It’s guaranteed to make you feel super productive.

2. Cry.

We all need a crying break. You can go back to “studying” after.

3. Watch an episode on Netflix.

When finals are getting you down, "Gossip Girl" is always there to give you some fake drama to worry about instead. Or if you want to cheer up, there’s always "Friends." All 10 seasons of it.

4. Take a nap.

Your brain can’t function on no sleep. You might as well take a four-hour nap right in the middle of the day to revive yourself!

5. Eat a snack.

And by snack, I mean something greasy and disgusting like a personal pizza from the dining hall. That should be guaranteed to give you the energy you need to finish reviewing!

6. Stare off into space.

Your mind needs a rest. Just let your mind go blank, it’s fine.

7. Check social media.

Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YikYak, whatever. You totally deserve a break from all your hard work!

8. Trek to the library… and still do nothing.

That’s right. Just sit there and watch the other people study. Maybe you’ll even absorb some of their knowledge.

9. Sleep with your textbook under your pillow.

Not only will you get a night of sub-par sleep, all the knowledge will work its way into your head during the night!

10. Last tip: Don’t do any of these things.

Let’s be honest, we aren’t gonna be focused 24/7 during finals week, but we need to try our best. Just remind yourself: two weeks until you have no responsibilities for a month! We can do it!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
